Quinton Cravens, Saint Francis senior, crosses over the goal line to score a touchdown against Ness City. The Indians received their trophy for winning the Bi-District title that night.

Saint Francis ended another game by halftime on Tuesday when they defeated Ness City with a 54-0 win in the first round of the playoffs.

After the game, the Indians accepted two trophies. One trophy was for winning the district title when they defeated Trego on October 27. The Indians also accepted the Bi-District trophy for defeating Ness City that night.

“It was fun and a good way to just start winning,” said Brock Waters,  Saint Francis senior.

At the pep rally, Carl Werner, Saint Francis junior high athletic director, repeated a broadcasted interview with the head Ness City coach where he bragged about their team being quicker on the ball than Saint Francis.

Saint Francis and Ness City warm up before the Bi-District playoff game. The Indians pummeled Ness City with a 54-0 victory.
"They thought they were faster, but we were faster at putting the points on the board,” said Keanu Bussell, Saint Francis senior, referring to the coach’s interview.  “It felt like one step closer to what we’ve worked so hard for,” said Bussell.

Rodney Yates, Saint Francis head football coach, said he is pleased the team is advancing in the playoffs.

“I’m extremely happy for the coaching staff and players,” said Yates. “The team executed at a higher level than our opponent and out performed them. The trip on Saturday will determine our ability to compete at a high level with short notice.  Playing three games in nine days is tough on everyone and our boys are ready for the challenge.”

Blake Utsler, Saint Francis junior, said he is focusing on winning state one game at a time.

“It felt really cool to just win the first playoff,” Utsler said. “Now since we’re heading to sub-state, we need to work harder and focus on chasing the gold.”

Saturday, November 5, the Indians will be traveling to Coldwater, Kansas, to take on South Central High School for the regional championship.
