Lady Indians Sweep Lady Jackrabbits

The junior high Lady Indians earned two wins versus the Greeley County (GC) Lady Jackrabbits in St. Francis on November 8. The Lady Indian B-Team defeated GC 20-8, and the A-Team Lady Indians won by a score of 35-11.

Seven different girls contributed to the Lady Indian point total in the B-Team contest. St. Francis jumped out to a 6-0 lead after one period of play and held the Lady Jackrabbits scoreless through the first half. St. Francis led 12-0 at halftime. With everyone receiving playing time, the Lady Indians continued to lead 16-4 after three periods of play and won the contest 20-8.

Lady Indians scoring in the B-Team contest were:  Lyden Lampe (4), Miah Hackney (4), Dani Broughman (4), Jesslynn Houtman (2), Bailey Workman (2), Rian Zimbal (2), and Amanda Neitzel (2). Ellee Krien recorded 5 steals in the contest.

In the A-Team game, St. Francis earned baskets by Talexa Weeter, Jordan Faulkender (2), and Emma Johnson in the first period to earn an 8-4 lead after one-quarter of play. 

Ellee Krien opened the second period converting a free-throw. Greeley County answered with a free-throw and basket by Genesis Valenzuel trimming the Lady Indian advantage to 9-7. Emma Johnson then scored on an out-of-bounds play (assist McKenna Poling) , a coast-to-coast drive, and a right wing jumper (assist Jordan Faulkender) to give the Lady Indians a 15-7 lead at halftime.

Emma Johnson made back-to-back free-throws to open the third period giving the Lady Indians a 10-point advantage (17-7). The margin grew larger on three consecutive baskets by Talexa Weeter. The scores came on a shot in the lane (assist McKenna Poling), a steal-two, and a right wing jumper on an a out-of-bounds play (assist Poling). With 2:18 remaining in the third, Greeley County called time-out trailing 23-7. After the time-out, GC scored a fast-break basket by Grace Whitham. Mia Morrow's coast-to-coast basket closed the third period scoring with the Lady Indians leading 25-9.

A baseline drive by Emma Johnson opened the final stanza. A Johnson assist set up a fast-break basket by Jesslynn Houtman moments later. Johnson's steal-two moved the scoreboard to 31-9. Talexa Weeter followed with a out-of-bounds play score from the left wing (assist Mia Morrow) and another steal-two. The Lady Indians lead 35-9, before Greeley County earned a late basket by Macie Lehman to bring the final score to 35-11.

Lady Indians scoring in the contest were:  Emma Johnson 14, Talexa Weeter 12, Jordyn Faulkender 4, Jesslynn Houtman 2, Mia Morrow 2, and Ellee Krien 1. The Lady Jackrabbits were led by Genesis Valenzuel with 4 points.

The Lady Indians will play Quinter on Thursday, November 10, in Quinter.
