JH Girls Split Games at Quinter

The junior high girls basketball teams split their games with Quinter on Thursday, November 10. The A-Team girls defeated the Lady Bulldogs 32-15. The B-Team girls lost a very close game, 16-18.

In A-Team action, the Lady Indians never trailed in the contest.The Lady Indians earned a 9-2 lead by the first quarter break and extended the lead throughout the contest. Emma Johnson opened the scoring, but Quinter quickly answered from the post. Johnson then swished a right wing trey (assist Talexa Weeter). Mia Morrow added and offensive rebound basket, and Weeter earned a steal-two just before the first quarter buzzer sounded. The Lady Indians led 9-2 at the break.

The second period scoring opened with a left wing shot by Talexa Weeter giving the Lady Indians a 9-point lead. Quinter then scored on an offensive rebound, an out-of-bounds play, and converted 1-of-2 free throws to pull within four (11-7). Jordan Faulkender's assist led to a left wing trey by Emma Johnson resulting in a 14-7 halftime lead for the Lady Indians.

St. Francis scored first in the third period getting a free-throw by Katie Wurm. After a Quinter time-out at 4:02, Emma Johnson added a steal-two and Talexa Weeter scored on a nice driving shot banked off the glass. Johnson's right wing trey (assist Jesslynn Houtman) moved the spread to 22-7 and triggered another Quinter time-out at 2:47. Addie Briggs drained a left wing shot for the Lady Bulldogs; their first score since the middle of the second period. Weeter followed with a jumper from the right baseline. After an offensive rebound shot by Ava Gillespie, Johnson drained her fourth trey of the contest, this one from the left side. As the game continued to slip way, Quinter used their third time-out of the period. St. Francis led 27-11 after three quarters of play.

The Lady Indians continued to expand their lead in the final period. Though Gillespie scored first for the Lady Dawgs, Emma Johnson added a free-throw and an out-of-bounds play score (assist Lyden Lampe). Lampe then scored from the left baseline moving the scoreboard to 32-13. Millie Brown scored the final basket of the contest for Quinter. St. Francis defeated Quinter in the A-Team contest, 32-15.

Scoring for the Lady Indians were:  Emma Johnson 17, Talexa Weeter 10, Lyden Lampe 2, Mia Morrow 2, and Katie Wurm 1. Kayler Getz led Quinter with 8 points. The Lady Indians made 2 of 14 from the line. Quinter was 1-8.

St. Francis lost the B-Team contest 16-18. Lady Indians scoring in the B-Team game were:  Lydia Jenkins 4, Hadleigh Hilt 4, Amanda Neitzel 4, Rian Zimbal 2, and Miah Hackney 2.

The junior high girls will play Hoxie on Tuesday, November 15, in St. Francis.
