JH Girls Play Rawlins County

The junior high girls basketball teams played Rawlins County on Thursday, November 17, in St. Francis. The teams split their contests with Rawlins County winning the A-Team game 27-32 and St. Francis winning the B-Team match-up 21-15.

In A-Team action, St. Francis fell behind the Lady Buffaloes due to some excellent first half shooting by the visitors. Emma Johnson opened the contest with score on an out-of-bounds play assist from Katie Wurm. After an early time-out by Rawlins County (RC), the Lady Buffaloes scored on an offensive rebound by Aubrey Moore and a left-corner trey by Kierstyn Domsch to lead 2-5. After a free-throw line jumper by Johnson, RC ran off six unanswered points to close the first period. St. Francis trailed 4-11 after one period of play.

The Rawlins County run continued into the second quarter when the Lady Buffs opened with a left corner shot by Moore and an offensive rebound basket by Sadie Sramek. The 10-point run placed the Lady Indians at a 4-15 deficit. Talexa Weeter's free throw ended the run, but another RC basket extended the margin a bit more to 5-17. Emma Johnson swished a right-wing trey, but RC answered with a free-throw line deuce on the next possession. Baskets by Weeter and two free-throws by Johnson narrowed the halftime margin to 12-19.

The excellent shooting that Rawlins County demonstrated in the first half did not reappear in the second half. The Lady Buffaloes only recorded one basket in the third period, an offensive rebound score by Sramek. Emma Johnson scored on consecutive free-throws and an offensive rebound, trimming the deficit to 16-21 at the third quarter break.

Emma Johnson followed a left corner trey with a coast-to-coast drive tying the contest at 21-all with 4:30 remaining. Abigail Singhateh made 3 of 4 free-throws for Rawlins County reclaiming the lead. Domsch's left corner trey extended the RC lead at 2:55, and a RC fast-break basket placed the Lady Indians down by eight (21-29). Johnson's jumper in the lane was followed by another Singhateh free-throw. Johnson then drained at top-of-the-key trey with 29 seconds remaining to move the scoreboard to 26-30. RC's Sramek added two more free-throws and Johnson one free-throw to close the final seconds. St. Francis lost to Rawlins County 27-32.

Kierstyn Domsch led RC with 8 points. Audrey Moore and Abigail Singhateh each scored 7 points for the visiting Lady Buffaloes. Sadie Sramek chipped in 6. Emma Johnson led the Lady Indians with 24 points. Talexa Weeter scored 3.

In the B-Team game St. Francis led 4-2 after one period and 15-2 at halftime. St. Francis continued to widened the margin in the third period and led 21-6 after three periods. The B-Team girls defeated Rawlins County 21-15.
