Boys Split With RC

The junior high boys A-Team defeated the Rawlins County Buffaloes 36-20 in St. Francis on Thursday, November 17. The B-Team Indians were defeated by the Buffaloes by a score of 16-28.

In the B-Team game, St. Francis led 4-3 after one period but trailed 9-11 at halftime. The third period ended with the Indians down by three, 16-13. Rawlins County scored 12 points in the final period to take a 16-28 win.

Rawlins Couny received a good balance in scoring with 5 Buffaloes scoring 5 or more points. St. Francis was led in scoring by Ben Busse with 12. Tyson Poling added 4 to the Indian cause.

In A-Team action, St. Francis was in control from the outset. Jesse Baxter put the Indians on the scoreboard first with a shot from the right baseline. Rawlins County took a brief lead on a left wing trey by Ben Crouse. Adam Krien's jumper in the lane started a six-point Indian run. A bit later, Krien's steal led to a two-shot foul on the Buffs; Krien sank both charity throws. Shadryon Blanka's assist set up a fast-break basket by Krien late in the first quarter. St. Francis led 8-3 after one period of play.

Laustat Chessmore opened the second period with a post basket for the Buffaloes. It would be the only basket the Buffs would get until the final seconds of the half. Meanwhile, the Indians reeled off a 10-point run extending the advantage to 18-5. In the run, St. Francis received a left baseline score from Colton Neitzel (assist Shadryon Blanka), a right baseline shot from Blanka (assist Neitzel), an offensive rebound bucket from Jesse Baxter, a left elbow shot from Baxter, and a fast-break basket by Adam Krien. Crouse scored for the Buffaloes on a baseline drive making the halftime score 18-7.

The Indians continued to extend their lead throughout the third period. A drive by Shadryon Blanka was followed by consecutive free-throws by Adam Krien. The only point the Buffs earned during the period was a free-throw by Cyrus Green. Blanka's last three baskets of the half came on a drive, a baseline shot (assist Colton Neitzel), and left elbow shot (assist Krien). St. Francis led by twenty (28-8) after three periods.

Jesse Baxter opened the final period with a score from the post. RC's Brady Beckman answered with a steal-two. Colton Neitzel's sweet post move was followed by a Neitzel assist to Adam Krien in the lane. St. Francis led 34-10. The Indians would get one more basket from Krien before the game ended. Rawlins County scored the last 7 points of the contest, to make the final score 36-20.

St. Francis had four players score in the contest:  Adam Krien 12, Shadryon Blanka 10, Jesse Baxter 8, and Colton Neitzel 6. Rawlins County was led by Laustat Chessmore and Ben Crouse, each with 7 points.

St. Francis will play Wallace County on Monday, November 21, in St. Francis.
