JH Boys Sweep Wallace County

The junior high boys basketball teams played Wallace County in St. Francis on Monday, November 22. Both contests were a mismatch as the Indians overpowered the Wildcats 55-10 in the A-Team game and won the B-Team contest won 32-12.

The A-Team was "over" shortly after the tip-off. St. Francis jumped out to a 9-0 lead with less than two minutes played receiving baskets by Jesse Baxter on an assist by Colton Neitzel, a left-wing jumper from Adam Krien, a left-corner trey from Baxter, and a Neitzel high-post bucket (assist Krien). The Wildcats called time-out at 4:02 to regroup. The dominating size and talent of the Indians continued to take its toll, and the spread increased to 11-0 on a lay-up by Shadryon Blanka (assist Baxter) before the Wildcats finally scored from the left elbow on a shot by Landon Johnson with 2:26 left in the period. A high-low post pass from Neitzel to Blanka was followed by a right-wing trey by Kobe Tice (assist Krien) in the closing minutes. The Indians led 16-2 after one quarter of action.

The Indians opened the second period with a driving score by Adam Krien in the lane. Krien's free-throw was followed by a basket by Kobe Tice (assist Jesse Baxter), a fast-break by Krien (assist Baxter), and an offensive rebound score by Colton Neitzel. The Indians led 27-2 before the next Wildcat score, a stick-back bucket by David Korbe. The Indians scored three more times before the first half came to a close. Ben Busse made an assist on a fast-break basket by Blanka. Blanka then scored on an offensive rebound and a cut through the lane (assist Neitzel). The Indians led 33-4 at halftime.

Adam Krien opened the third period with an offensive rebound score. Johnson answered with a runner from the right baseline. It would be the only score the Wildcats would get in the period. The Indians scored 18 unanswered points to lead 53-6 at the end of three quarters. Most of the Indians' scores came on good teamwork with the ball being passed crisply to earn good shots. Adam Krien's assist led to a baseline score by Shadryon Blanka. After two Blanka free-throws, Blanka's assist returned the favor to Krien on a break. Jesse Baxter swished two charity tosses before Kobe Tice's assist set up a fast-break basket by Blanka. The quarter closed after an offensive rebound score by Colton Neitzel, a lay-up by Blanka (assist Krien), a Gavin Cooper to Tice to Neitzel break, and a steal-two by Krien. St. Francis led 53-6 at the end of the third period.

Substitute players saw most of the 4th quarter action. The quarter was played with a running clock. Tyson Poling's offensive rebound score was the only basket for the Indians in the final period. Wallace County made the final four points of the game. St. Francis defeated Wallace County 55-10.
