Zoe Sundstrom and Tressa LaBarge, Saint Francis juniors, play Fan and Tiny Tim in "A Christmas Carol" drama performance during dress rehearsal Sunday afternoon. "I signed up for drama because it sounded really fun to do and I like to perform," said Jessica Confer, Saint Francis sophomore. "Everyone should come out to see the performance because our costumes are really fancy and it's going to be a good show. It will be a good way to get people in the Christmas spirit before the holidays."The SFCHS Drama class is pleased to present A Christmas Carol, by Charles Dickens, a perennial holiday favorite. This timeless story captures the essence of Christmas in that Scrooge, the main character, an avowed cynic and misanthrope, learns to value the truly important things in life: friendship, compassion, and kindness towards her fellow man. Yes, you read that correctly-- “her” because our Scrooge is female. Jenna Confer brings a modern twist to the classic tale by playing Scrooge as a woman. In addition, each of the four ghosts in the play adds his or her own special flavor to the play. Taylor Rogers as Marley, Hanna Bracelin as the Ghost of Christmas Past, Jerry Neitzel as the Ghost of Christmas Present, and Shelby Wolff as the Phantom of Christmases yet to come anchor the three middle staves in fetching and memorable ways. Brock Waters is our tender but hapless Bob Cratchit, and Danielle Frink serves as the all-important narrator. Tressa LaBarge wears many hats (or many costumes) in this performance and shows just how versatile an actress she is. Rounding out the cast are many first time Drama students. Coy DeWaal delights as Fred, Luin Norris and Dalton Straub have killer accents, and Jessica Confer earns her acting stripes by tackling three different roles. Zoe Sundstrom, Lindsey Johnson, Lauren Johnson, Madi Tice, JR Landenberger, Luke Lampe, and Alex Queen fill out the cast and fill the play with stellar performances. And lest we forget the glue that binds it all together, I must give room and major props (pun intended) to our crew: Ryan Grover, Quinton Cravens, Tate Busse, and Jordan Raby.
