Jr. High Lady Indians Win One, Lose One

On Monday, December 5, the junior high girls basketball teams traveled to Oberlin to play the Decatur Community Red Devils. The Lady Indians came home with a 30-18 win in the A-Team game and a 9-26 loss in the B-team contest.

In the A-Team game, neither team scored well in the first period, and the Lady Indians trailed 3-4 after one quarter of play. The Lady Indians found the basket with regularity in the second quarter scoring fourteen points and while holding Decatur Community (DC) to eight to lead 17-12 at halftime. Talexa Weeter scored 8 points for the Lady Indians in the quarter. The Lady Indians gradually increased their lead throughout the second half leading 23-15 after three periods and winning 30-18.

Scoring for the Lady Indians were:  Talexa Weeter (14), Emma Johnson (9), Jesslynn Houtman (3), Mia Morrow (2), and McKenna Poling (2). Ventz led the Lady Red Devils with 6. The Lady Indians made 5 of 9 from the line while DC connected on 2 of 8.

In B-Team action, St. Francis trailed 3-4 after one quarter and 7-9 at halftime. The Lady Indians struggled to score in the second half falling behind 9-16 after three periods to lose 9-26. 

Scoring for the Lady Indians were:  Rian Zimbal (3), Amanda Neitzel (2), Dani Broughman (2), Miah Hackney (1), and Bree De Waal (1). DC was led by Urban with 8 points.

The junior high basketball teams will play Rawlins County, in Atwood, on Thursday, December 8.
