An insiders look on Senior Julia Davis

On October 28, 2014, Julia Davis almost died at 15 years old. During a routine drive back from Goodland, riding in their family Mercury Mountaineer, Julia was in a car accident that almost killed her and has shaped how she looks at life now. She went over a fence and rolled 200 meters. She broke her left wrist, crushed her right wrist, broke her nose in three places, broke her L1 and L2 vertebra, broke her left ankle (which was hanging from her achilles tendon,) degloved her forehead, had a collapsed lung, and a lacerated liver. During all of that, She lost two pints of blood and now she looks at life differently.

“Treat everyday like it's you last,” Davis said. “I try not to regret what I do everyday because I value life a lot more than I use to. It was a wake up call for me.”

Julia Davis, Saint Francis senior, has a busy school life. Davis stayed busy this fall by being the manager for the football team. She is also in choir and drama. “I like singing,” Davis said. “Singing helped me through a lot of stuff in my past. It’s an emotional release for me.”

She said her home is uniquely different and not in the stereotypical way, but she still lives in a loving home. Julia is raised by a single parent and it has showed her that it takes a lot to raise kids by yourself. “My Mom taught me that she can do anything she sets her mind to,” Davis said. “It just gives me that same confidence that I can do anything I set my mind to.”

Elanne Srock, Julia’s mom, said of Julia, “She is her own little entity, opinionated and doesn't care what other people say.” Srock also said Julia likes to camp and swim.

Luin Norris, Saint Francis junior and Julia’s younger brother, said “Julia is a nice person, and if you are nice to her then she will buy you stuff.”

Mallory Mills, Saint Francis junior, said “Julia is funny, has interesting ideas, and is strange in a good way.”

After graduation, Davis said she plans to go to Colby Community College to get her general education requirements out of the way while she decides on a major.
