Regional Champions!

The St. Francis Indians won the 2017 Region 24 1A Track and Field Championship on Friday, May 19. The Indians accumulated 98 team points to run away with the team championship. Second place Osborne finished with 68 points. The Lady Indians earned 9 team points to place 17th in the girls division.

The Regional Track and Field Meet was held at the new track facility at Fort Hays State University under very difficult conditions. The meet was delayed due to weather and then resumed until completion. Athletes had fought adverse weather to make their attempts at qualifying for the State Track Meet in Wichita the following week.

Several St. Francis athletes performed well enough to place in the top four slots and qualify for the State Track Meet. SFCHS athletes qualifying for the State Meet include:  Cody Baxter, Reagan Beims, Tate Busse, Brady Dinkel, Wyatt Hackler, Lauren Johnson, K.C. Krien, Tiernan Poling, Jordan Raby, Taylor Rogers, Dalton Straub, Brock Waters, Taighe Weeter, Tayton Weeter, and Hannah Zimbal.

Boys Division

The Indians 98 team points was more than enough to seal the Regional Championship. Osborne's 68 points ranked second. The remainder of the team standings were as follows:  3rd - Stockton 52, 4th - Wallace County 44, 5th - Northern Valley 39, 6th - Brewster 38, 7th - La Crosse 37, 8th - Victoria 30, 9th - Logan - 27, 10th - Weskan 20, 11th (tie) - Otis-Bison 19, 11th (tie) - Wilson 19, 13th (tie) - Tipton Catholic 14, 13th (tie) - Natoma 14, 15th - Lakeside 10, 16th (tie)- Wheatland 9, 16th (tie) Sylvan-Lucas Untified 9, and 18 - Palco 6.

Indians placing in the Regional Track Meet are listed below.

Cody Baxter - 2nd in 110 meter hurdles (18.03); 2nd in 300 meter hurdles (42.48)

Trayton Doyle - 5th in shot put (40' 10.25")

Wyatt Hackler - 4th in 100 meters (12.32)

K.C.Krien - 5th in 800 meters (2:15. 82)

Luin Norris - 5th in discus (124' 5")

Tiernan Poling - 4th in pole vault (10' 0")

Jordan Raby - 1st in 100 meters (12.05); 2nd in 400 meters (51.45)

Taylor Rogers - 2nd in 200 meters (23.86)

Dalton Straub - 3rd in long jump (20' 7.25")

Tayton Weeter - 2nd in pole vault (11' 0")

4 X 100 meter relay - 1st (44.18) - Wyatt Hackler, Jordan Raby, Tate Busse, Taylor Rogers

4 X 400 meter relay - 1st (3:28.86) - Jordan Raby, Wyatt Hackler, Taylor Rogers, Tate Busse

4 X 800 meter relay - 2nd (9:04.20) - K.C. Krien, Brady DInkel, Tate Busse, and Brock Waters

Girls Division

Lakeside won the girls Region 24 team championship with 90 team points. Sylvan-Lucas Unified placed second with 50. Stockton placed third with 47. The other scoring teams finished in the following order:  4th (tie) - Quinter 40, 4th (tie) - Northern Valley 40, 6th - Osborne 38, 7th - Victoria 33, 8th - Wallace County 32, 9th - Golden Plains 30, 10th (tie) - Otis-Bison 26, 10th (tie) La Crosse 26, 12th - Thunder Ridge 24, 13th - Logan 20, 14th - Weskan 16, 15th (tie)- Palco 13, 15th (tie) Wheatland 13, 17th - St. Francis 9, 18th - Natoma 8, 19th - Cheylin 2, and 20th Tipton Catholic 1.

Lady Indians placing in the Regional Track Meet are listed below:

Mallory Mills - 5th in 400 meters (1:11.79)

4 X 400 meter relay - 5th (4:29.52) Hannah Zimbal Madison Tice, Reagan Beims, and Taighe Weeter

4 X 800 meter relay - 4th (11:22.70) - Hannah Zimbal, Taighe Weeter, Reagan Beims, and Lauren Johnson

The SFCHS athletes will conclude their track season at the Kansas State High School Track and Field Championships in Wichita on May 26 and 27.
