Junior High Boys Defeat Wallace County

The junior high boys earned two wins against Wallace County on Thursday, November 9. In games played in St. Francis, the B-team boys earned earned a 34-22 win over the visiting Wildcats, and the A-team boys defeated Wallace County (WC) 41-17. The C-team boys lost a two-quarter contest 6-7.

The B-team contest was played at the Grade School. St. Francis jumped out to an early 13-1 advantage and led 16-6 at halftime. The Indians received 9 points each from Ben Busse and Preston Witzel in the third period and extended their lead to 34-10 by the quarter break. The Indians defeated Wallace County 34-22.

Scoring for the Indians in the B-team contest were:  Preston Witzel 15, Ben Busse 13, Jordan Smull 3, and Conner Hathaway 3. Wallace County was led by 7th grader Cade Johnson with 6 and 6th grader Tharyan Hawkins with 5.

St. Francis also jumped out to a comfortable lead early in the A-team contest. Two buckets by Ben Busse gave the Indians a 5-1 advantage, and with the addition of a few baskets by Preston Witzel, the margin increased to 12-3. Ben Busse scored 9 points in the quarter. St. Francis led 16-6 after one quarter of play.

In the second period, the Indians extended the lead to 27-8 getting two scores by Witzel and three by Busse. The only basket scored by the Wildcats was made by 7th grader Blake Snow on an offensive rebound.

Wallace County trimmed the lead in the third period, getting baskets from 8th graders Connor Kulhman and Ethan Korbe as well as additional baskets by Johnson and Hawkins. Jordan Smull accounted for the only St. Francis basket, a trey from the top-of-the-key. St. Francis led 30-15 after three periods of competition.

St. Francis outscored the Wildcats 11-2 in the final stanza making the final margin 41-17. Preston Witzel scored 9 points in the quarter.

Scoring for the Indians in the A-team game were:  Preston Witzel 21, Ben Busse 17, and Jordan Smull 3. Wallace County was led by Johnson with 6 and Hawkins with 5.

The Indians will play Dighton, in Dighton, on Thursday, November 16.
