Junior High Boys Sweep The Cougars

The junior high boys basketball teams both earned victories over Cheylin on Tuesday, November 28. The B-team boys routed the visiting Cougars 35-11, and the A-team earned a come-from-behind victory 32-26.

The B-team opened the evening and wasted little time in establishing full control. The young Indians jumped out to an 18-0 lead before Cheylin scored their first basket on a drive by Pablo Bermudez with 1:25 left in the first period. St. Francis led 20-2 after one quarter of play. Ben Busse and Preston Witzel scored all of St. Francis' points in the quarter except two. Colton Raile scored the final basket of the period for the Indians.

The Indians widened the margin in the second stanza. Cheylin made 1 of 2 from the line late in the period to make the halftime score 31-3.

St. Francis played a variety of players throughout the second half. The Indians earned two baskets by Colton Raile in the third period and led 35-5 after three quarters of action.

The Indians did not score in the final period. Cheylin added a drive and offensive rebound basket by Brady Ketzner and a drive by Victor Hernandez in the final period to make the final score 35-11.

Scoring for the Indians in the B-team game were:  Ben Buse 18, Preston Witzel 9, and Colton Raile 8. Brady Ketzner led Cheylin with 4 points.

The A-team contest was much more closely contested. St. Francis trailed 7-12 after one quarter of action. Both teams scored 6 points in the second period, and the Indians trailed at halftime 13-18.

St. Francis earned ten points in the third period, receiving 4 from Ben Busse, 4 from Preston Witzel, and 2 from Colton Raile. The Indians held the Cougars to 4 points in the period to close the margin to one point (23-24) after three quarters of play.

The Indians earned a come-from-behind win scoring 9 points in the final stanza. Ben Busse made two baskets and Garrett Helton one in the period. Preston Witzel sank 3 of 4 from the line. The Indians defeated the Cougars 32-26.

Scoring for the Indians in the A-team contest were:  Ben Busse 15, Preston Witzel 11, Colton Raile, 4, and Garrett Helton 2. Cheylin was led in scoring by Mitchell Howard with 10 and Dylan Ketzner with 8.

The junior high basketball teams will play Rawlins County, in St. Francis, on Thursday, November 30.
