Lady Indians Defeat Cheylin

The St. Francis A-team defeated Cheylin 39-9 in junior high girls basketball on Tuesday, November 28, in St. Francis. There was no B-team contest played due to limited numbers of players (10) on the Cheylin team.

St. Francis jumped out to a 6-0 lead getting two free-throws from Talexa Weeter, an out-of-bounds play basket by Jordan Faulkender (assist Mia Morrow), and a baseline drive by Weeter. Brooke Porubsky scored the first Cheylin basket on a fast-break. With the addition of two more Weeter baskets and a right-wing score by Jesslynn Houtman, the Lady Indians increased their lead to 12-2. Cheylin scored the last two baskets of the period; a baseline shot by Grace Wright and a trey by Nellie Hespe. St. Francis led 12-7 after one quarter of action.

Ellee Krien opened the second period with a nice assist leading to a post basket by Jordan Faulkender. The Lady Indians added a steal-two and a drive by Talexa Weeter and an offensive rebound basket by Lyden Lampe during the period. Cheylin failed to score in the second period, and the Lady Indians took a 20-7 lead to the locker room at halftime.

Jordan Faulkender scored the first basket of the second half. Brooke Porbusky answered with a shot from the right elbow. It would be the only basket the Lady Cougars would earn in the second half. The Lady Indians continued to gradually increase their lead throughout the third period to lead 33-9 after three quarters.

With all of the suited Lady Indians seeing action in the the third and fourth quarters, the Lady Indians earned 6 more points in the final period. Miah Hackney scored on an offensive rebound and Jordan Faulkender added a post basket. The final St. Francis score came on an assist by Faulkender leading to a lay-up by Lyden Lampe. St. Francis defeated the Cheylin Lady Cougars 39-9.

Scoring for St. Francis in the contest were:  Talexa Weeter 18, Lyden Lampe 7, Jordan Faulkender 6, Ellee Krien 4, Jesslynn Houtman 2, and Miah Hackney 2. Cheylin was led by Brooke Porubsky with 4 points.

The Lady Indians will play Rawlins County, in St. Francis, on Thursday, November 30.
