Junior High Girls Defeat Greeley County

The junior high girls basketball teams traveled to Tribune on Thursday, December 7, to play the Greeley County Lady Jackrabbits. The Lady Indians returned with two more wins. The A-team defeated Greeley County by a score of 37-16. The B-team won 25-7.

St. Francis jumped out to a 10-2 lead after one quarter of play in the A-team contest. The Lady Indians blew the game open in the second period scoring 19 points. In the second period, St. Francis received four points each from Ellee Krien and Jordan Faulkender and 9 from Talexa Weeter. The Lady Indians led 29-6 at halftime.

The scoring slowed in the second half as many Lady Indians shared playing time. St. Francis led 32-14 after three quarters of play and won the contest 37-16.

St. Francis made 4 of 9 from the stripe while Greeley County connected on 2 of 8 in the game. M. Chin-Reynaldo led the Lady Rabbits with 10 points.

Scoring for St. Francis in the A-team game were Talexa Weeter 17, Jordan Faulkender 7, Ellee Krien 6, Rian Zimbal 3, McKenna Poling 2, and Jesslynn Houtman 2.

In B-team action, St. Francis led 4-0 after one period and 10-0 at halftime. The Lady Rabbits scored 5 points in the third period, but the Lady Indians increased their advantage to 13 points (18-5) by the quarter break. St. Francis added 7 points to their total in the final stanza while holding the Lady Rabbits to one basket. St. Francis defeated Greeley County 25-7.

Nine players scored for St. Francis in the B-team contest. Bailey Workman and Molly Gilliland each scored 4 points to lead the Lady Indians. Others scoring for St. Francis included Janie Ramirez 3, Makaila Matthies 3, Anglela Ramirez 3, Jesslynn Houtman 2, Hadleigh Hilt 2, Miah Hackney 2, and Dani Broughman 2. The Lady Indians made 3 of 9 attempts from the free-throw line.

K. Woelk led Greeley County with 4 points. The Lady Rabbits made 1 of 4 from the stripe.

The junior high girls will play Goodland, in Goodland, on Tuesday December 12.
