JH Boys Split Games in Tribune

The junior high boys basketball teams split their games with Greeley County in Tribune on Thursday, December 7. The A-team Indians lost to the home-standing Jackrabbits 16-55. The B-team Indians defeated Greeley County 49-17.

The A-team contest was "over" early as Greeley County jumped out to a 0-29 1st-quarter lead. In the period, Tikes Sherer scored 15 of Greeley County's 29. St. Francis received a basket each from Ben Busse, Colton Raile, and Jordan Smull in the second period, but trailed 6-39 at halftime. 

Preston Witzel drained two treys in the third period to account to all of the Indians scoring during the quarter. St. Francis trailed 12-49 at the third quarter break. Garrett Helton and Ben Busse each added a basket in the final period for the Indians. St. Francis lost to Greeley County 16-55.

Scoring for St. Francis in the A-team contest were:  Preston Witzel 6, Ben Busse 4, Garrett Helton 2, Colton Raile 2, and Jordan Smull 2. St. Francis did not attempt a free-throw in the contest.

Titus Sherer led Greeley County with 19 points. Jason Brandl scored 14 and Cade Mangon 12. The Jackrabbits shot two free-throws converting zero.

In B-team action, St. Francis received 7 points from Preston Witzel in the opening quarter and led 12-10 at the break. Ben Busse chipped in 6 of the Indians' 8 second quarter points to allow the Indians to lead 20-14 at halftime.

In the third period, St. Francis widened the margin to 36-17. Witzel scored 10 points in the quarter. The Indians did not allow a basket in the final period while scoring 13 (9 by Witzel). St. Francis defeated Greeley County 49-17 in the B-team contest.

Scoring for St. Francis in the game were:  Preston Witzel 26, Ben Busse 14, Colton Raile 6, and Garrett Helton 3. The Indians made 0 of 2 from the line.

Jesse Smith led Greeley County with 6 points (getting 5 in the 1st period). The Rabbits made 4 of 9 from the free-throw line.

The Indians will compete in the Northwest Kansas League Junior High Basketball Tournament in Quinter beginning on Thursday, December 14.
