B-Team Advances
The Northwest Kansas League Junior High Basketball Tournament got underway on Thursday, December 14. In first-round action in Quinter, the B-Team won their opening contest over Wallace County 33-18 to advance to the semi-finals on Saturday, December 16.
The young Indians scored five points in the first period getting a trey from Preston Witzel and a deuce from Ben Busse. The Wildcats also scored five points in the period. St.Francis extended their lead to 12-8 by halftime.
In the third period, Preston Witzel drained three treys and a deuce to pace the Indians. St. Francis led 25-13 after three periods of action. In the final period, Colton Raile and Ben Busse each added four points to the Indians point total. St. Francis defeated Wallace County in the B-team contest 33-18.
Scoring for the Indians in the contest were Preston Witzel 19, Ben Busse 10, and Colton Raile 4. The Indians made 5 of 8 from the free-throw line. Wallace County was led in scoring by C. Johnson with 8 points. Wallace County did not attempt a free-throw in the game.
St. Francis lost the A-team contest to the #1-seeded Hoxie Indians 0-82.
The B-team will play in the championship semi-finals on Saturday in Quinter. The Indians game will tip-off at 10:00 a.m. The B-team will also play a second contest on Saturday at 12:30.
