Jr. High Teams Compete in Atwood Quint

The St. Francis Junior High track teams competed in a meet at Atwood on Thursday, April 19. The young tracksters turned in some impressive performances during the competition. The Lady Indians placed 3rd in the meet scoring 90 team points. The Indians placed 5th with 45.

Several St. Francis athletes won events at the meet.  Jeanie Stick won the 100 meter hurdles and 200 meter hurdles. Mia Morrow won the triple jump. The girls 4 X 100 meter relay (Jeanie Strick, McKenna Poling, Mia Morrow, and Hadleigh Hilt) and the 4 X 400 meter relay (Rian Zimbal, Jesslynn Houtman, Janie Ramirez, and Ellee Krien) each were event winners. The highest individual placers for the boys were Rhonald Neitzel (400 meters), Ben Busse (800 and 1600 meters), Shannon Rethke (high jump), the 4 X 100 meter relay (Colton Raile, Preston Witzel, Rhonald Neitzel, Garrett Helton), and the 4 X 400 meter relay (Shannon Rethke, Cris Espino, Rhonald Neitzel, Preston Witzel) each earning 2nd place. Five places were scored in the meet.

Girls Division

The girls division was won by Rawlins County with 104 team points. Golden Plains placed second with 95 and St. Francis third with 90. Dighton placed fourth with 37 points and Quinter fifth with 28.

Makaila Matthies - 5th in 1600 meters (7:18.44)

Mia Morrow - 1st in triple jump (30' 1"), 2nd in 100 meters (14.59), 5th in long jump (12' 8.5")

McKenna Poling - 3rd in 200 meters (31.88), 4th in 100 meters (14.97), 4th in 400 meters (1:11.45)

Anglea Ramirez - 5th in shot put (28' 1")

Hailey Robbins - 5th in pole vault (5' 0")

Jeanie Strick - 1st in 100 meter hurdles (18.50), 1st in 200 meter hurdles (33.98), 5th in 400 meters (1:12.34)

Talexa Weeter - 2nd in high jump (4' 2"), 2nd in pole vault (6' 0")

4 X 100 meter relay - 1st (57.07) - Jeanie Strick, McKenna Poling, Mia Morrow, and Hadleigh Hilt

4 x 200 meter relay - 2nd (2:16.70) - Rian Zimbal, Jesslynn Houtman, Bailey Workman, and Ellee Krien

4 X 400 meter relay - 1st (5:09.36) - Rian Zimbal, Jesslyn Houtman, Janie Ramirez, and Ellee Krien

Boys Division

Golden Plains and Quinter each scored 85 points to tie for first in the boys division. Rawlins County earned 74 for third. Dighton (64) and St. Francis (45) placed fourth and fifth.

Boys placing in the meet are listed below.

Ben Busse - 2nd in 800 meters (2:55.03), 2nd in 1600 meters (5:51.83)

Rhonald Neitzel - 2nd in 400 meters (1:06.06)

Shannon Rethke - 3rd in 100 meter hurdles (20.13), 4th in 200 meter hurdles (33.41), 2nd in high jump (4' 2")

Preston Witzel - 4th in 400 meters (1:10.79), 5th in 200 meters (30.71)

4 X 100 meter relay - 2nd (56.51) - Colton Raile, Preston Witzel, Rhonald Neitzel, and Garrett Helton

4 X 200 meter relay - 5th (2:17.50) - Cris Espino, Colton Raile, Eli Mills, and Dodge Fromholtz

4 X 400 meter relay - 2nd (4:46.00) - Rhonald Neitzel, Preston Witzel, Cris Espino, and Shannon Rehtke

The junior high teams will compete in Oberlin on Thursday, July 26.
