Beikman: A man of many hobbies
He’s a man of many hobbies: showman, derbier, and a fabricator. Martin Beikman, senior, is successful in all of his hobbies.
He said he likes to show cattle “because it separates the men from the boys and it takes a lot of hard work.”
Beikman shows both cattle and pigs.
“Whoever said money can’t buy happiness hasn’t owned a show steer,” Beikman said.
Kaleb Hays, junior, said Beikman is a good showman. “It’s a lifestyle for him.”
Beikman also likes to derby. He said it “gives you an adrenaline rush when your plowing someone in the arena.”
Last year, Beikman won third place in the derby in Beloit, Kan.
“Martin is a good fabricator and a natural derby car driver,” Hays said. “Martin has an ability to not get hurt when driving derby cars.”
Wyatt Hilt, junior, said he is jealous of Beikman’s ability to build and derby cars.
He also has a hobby for building and welding. “I enjoy fabricating and getting behind the wheel of a derby car,” Biekman said.
Beikman plans to go into electrical engineering at North Central Kansas Technical College in Hays.
“If I had to describe Martin in one word it would be majestic,” Hays said.
