Talking with Tressa LaBarge

Tressa LaBarge was escorted to prom by Jaron Berig.

This woods-loving, art-loving, band-loving senior unabashedly likes to talk. Senior Tressa LaBarge sat down with her long, wavy blonde hair and sunglasses perched on the top of her head and honestly described herself as an open book. “Ask me anything,” she said.

LaBarge loves to take woods. “I like woodshop class. It helped me know how numbers are used,” she said. LaBarge also said she loves to play chess and is very interested in martial arts. LaBarge has played the flute in the school band all four years of high school.

LaBarge also has taken on the roles of Tiny Tim in “A Christmas Carol,” and a hillbilly in “A Zombie Movie.” LaBarge said that she loves to act in different kinds of styles.

LaBarge said she really has enjoyed art all throughout high school, especially 3D art. She received a ribbon on her ocean/sunset painted and plaster 3D project for the NWKL art show.

Senior Blake Utsler said the best memories he has with Tressa is sharing funny jokes during seminars.

LaBarge said they always made fun of each other in seminar. “I do remember one time in chemistry we got in trouble so many times because we were talking and we’d take each other’s notes and draw in the margins.”

Chad Sherman, senior, said, “She is really nice and fun to be around.”

LaBarge said she has been working harder academically this year to make her parents proud.

“I feel like I’m working harder this year [academically] than I have in past years because I’ve felt more into school and wanting to get it over with. I just wanted to show my parents I could do it,” LaBarge said.

After school LaBarge plans on attending Colby Community College to major as a Veterinarian Technician. “After that I plan to go to Colorado.” said the graduating senior. “I’ve always wanted to work with a bunch of different animals and live in a bigger city so I can talk to lots of people about random topics,” LaBarge said. “I’ve worked for my grandma at the farm she owns a bird farm. We raise pheasants, quail and chucker for game. I’ve always been around birds and thought ‘what could I do around animals?’ Last year I did my [career placement] test and it showed Vet Tech on it and I thought it sounded like a great job for me. That stood out to me and sounded better than a bomb diffuser job that also came up in my results.”

During the school year, LaBarge works at the movie theater and said she has always wanted to be in a movie. “I was in a short film last summer, but never in a movie,” she said.

I believe Tressa [LaBarge] has a very courageous and energetic personality. She’s always been there for me as a listening ear. She’s a kind spirit and I will miss her next year.
