Featuring: Chad Sherman

Chad “CJ” Sherman strives to be independent and has for years. Sherman likes nice things and he is motivated to pay for them himself.

“And I won’t let anything get in my way [to get what I want],” Sherman said.

Sherman started working weekends at Subway when he was in eighth grade and continued working there for three years. By his senior year, Sherman balanced three jobs simultaneously and school.

“I know I’ve failed classes because of working too much, but I just want to pass,” said Sherman. “I want to be independent and not rely on other people.”

After graduation, Chad plans to move back to Colorado to live by his mom. Then after a year or two he will move to Grand Island, Neb. to go to school for nursing.

CJ and I have been close friends for years now. We have faced so many things together, but through it all, we’ve stayed close friends. He’s the big brother I never had, and I couldn’t imagine my life without him staying in it. I’m happy for him, and proud of the person he has become. CJ has overcome a lot, and is strong and determined. I know that no matter what happens in life, we will always be close to each other.
