St. Francis Junior High Teams Place Well at NWKL Meet

The Northwest Kansas League Junior High Track and Field Meet was held in St. Francis on Thursday, May 10. The meet was competed in four divisions-- 8th boys, 8th girls, 6th-7th boys, and 6th-7th girls. St. Francis won the Northwest Kansas League Championship in the 8th grade girls division and placed 2nd in the 6th-7th girls division. The Indians earned 4th in the 6th-7th grade boys division and placed in the 8th grade boys division.

St. Francis had several league champions. Placing first in the NWKL Meet were:  Mia Morrow (8th girls 100 meters and triple jump), Ben Busse (6th-7th boys 800 meters and 3200 meters), Talexa Weeter (6th-7th girls pole vault), and McKenna Poling (8th girls long jump).

The 8th girls 4 X 100 meter relay, the 6th-7th girls 4 X 100 meter relay, the 8th girls 4 X 400 meter relay, the 6th-7th girls 4 X 400 meter relay, and the 6th-7th boys 4 X 400 meter relay teams all placed first.

8th Girls Division

St. Francis won the NWKL championship in the 8th grade girls division earning 117 team points. Wallace County placed second with 82. The remainder of the teams finished in the following order:  3rd - Decatur Community 67, 4th - Rawlins County 62, 5th - Greeley County 49, 6th - Hoxie 46, 7th - Dighton 42, and 8th - Quinter 39.

Lady Indians placing in the 8th grade girls division of the NWKL meet are listed below.

Jordyn Faulkender - 4th in shot put (28' 4.5"), 5th in discus (59' 2")

Hadleigh Hilt - 3rd in triple jump (27' 10"), 6th in long jump (12' 4")

Lyden Lampe - 4th in 1600 meters (7:09.58), 3rd in 3200 meters (15:47.70)

Mia Morrow - 1st in 100 meters (14.36), 1st in triple jump (31' 0")

McKenna Poling - 1st in long jump (14' 0"), 2nd in 200 meters (30.41)

Hailey Robbins - 3rd in 1600 meters (6:52. 52), 3rd in pole vault (5' 0')

Jeanie Strick - 2nd in 100 meter hurdles (18.32), 2nd in 200 meter hurdles (32.60)

4 X 100 meter relay - 1st (56.53)- Mia Morrow, Hadleigh Hilt, McKenna Poling, Jeanie Strick

4 X 200 meter relay - 2nd (2:15.14) - Hailey Robbins, Hadleigh Hilt, Bailey Workman, and Jordyn Faulkender

4 X 400 meter relay - 1st (5:00.14) - Mia Morrow, McKenna Poling, Jeanie Strick, and Lyden Lampe

6th-7th Girls Division

Rawlins County dominated the 6th-7th grade girls division with 124 team points. St. Francis placed second with 84. The remainder of the field placed in the following order:  3rd - Wallace County 81.5, 4th - Quinter 67, 5th - Hoxie 56.5, 6th - Decatur Community 45, 7th - Greeley County 32, and 8th - Dighton 17.

Lady Indians placing in the 6th-7th grade girls division are listed below.

Molly Gilliland - 6th in shot put (24' 1"), 6th in discus (53' 11")

Jesslynn Houtman - 4th in triple jump (25' 9.5")

Ellee Krien - 4th in 400 meters (1:08.61)

Makaila Matthies - 4th in 1600 meters (7:12.21)

Jacki Milliken - 6th in long jump (11' 8.5")

Angela Ramirez - 3rd in shot put (29' 9"), 4th in discus (55' 7")

Janie Ramirez - 3rd in 100 meter hurdles (21.81)

Talexa Weeter - 1st in pole vault (6' 6"), 2nd in high jump (4' 0"), 3rd in 800 meters (3:00.19)

Rian Zimbal - 5th in 100 meters (15.29)

4 X 100 meter relay - 1st (59.51) - Rian Zimbal, Jesslynn Houtman, and Janie Ramirez, and Ellee Krien

4 X 200 meter relay - 2nd (2:09.50) - Rian Zimbal, Ellee Krien, Jesslynn Houtman, and Anglea Ramirez

4 X 400 meter relay - 1st (4:57.16) - Rian Zimbal, Jesslynn Houtman, Janie Ramirez, and Ellee Krien

8th Boys Division

The 8th grade boys division champion was Hoxie. Hoxie earned 110 team points to out-distance second-place Decatur Community with 97. Quinter placed 3rd with 88 team points. The remainder of the teams finished in the following order:  4th - Rawlins County 54, 5th - Greeley County 46, 6th - Wallace County 38, 7th - Dighton 34, and 8th - St. Francis 24.

Indians placing in the 8th grade boys division are listed below.

Eli Mills - 2nd in 200 meter hurdles (32.07), 3rd in 100 meter hurdles (19.49)

Shannon Rethke - 3rd in 200 meter hurdles (33.35), 4th in 100 meter hurdles (19.50)

6th-7th Boys Division

Rawlins County won the 6th-7th grade boys division totaling 110 team points. Quinter placed second with 97. The rest of the field finished in the following order:  3rd - Wallace County 83, 4th - St. Francis 81, 5th - Hoxie 80, 6th - Dighton 46, 7th - Greeley County 24, and 8th Decatur Community 2.

Indians placing in the 6th-7th grade boys division are listed below.

Ben Busse - 1st in 800 meters (2:39.19), 1st in 3200 meters (12:37.59), 3rd in pole vault (8' 0")

Garrett Helton - 2nd in triple jump (30' 6"), 4th in long jump (13' 9")

Rhonald Neitzel - 3rd in 400 meters (1:04.62)

Colton Raile - 6th in discus (70' 6")

Connor Wachsmann - 4th in discus (74' 11")

Preston Witzel - 3rd in 200 meters (30.47), 5th in high jump (4' 4")

4 X 100 meter relay - 1st (54.78) - Colton Raile, Garrett Helton, Rhonald Neitzel, and Preston Witzel

4 X 200 meter relay - 4th (2:17.36) - Cris Espino, Garrett Helton, Connor Wachsmann, and Jordan Smull
