The Saint Francis Lady Indian volleyball team started off their season with a tri against Goodland and Hoxie; a matchup against Idalia; a game against Cheylin. Out of the matches, the volleyball team won all of them except to Hoxie.

“It’s been a great volleyball season so far. It’s been so much fun to get to know all of my teammates,” said Jessica Confer, senior. “I love playing front row and I love to serve. I always try to stay aggressive and make smart plays when the ball comes to me.”

The volleyball team did not let their loss against Hoxie hold them back.

“It was great to finally get to start playing and play as a team and to see what we are going to be capable of this season,” said Junior Karly Bandel. “It was first game jitters against Goodland, but we found our groove and pulled off a win. Coach is always really good at pep talks and getting us motivated but we really wanted to win for ourselves and for each other and we all played aggressively and played our roles.”

On Thursday, August 30, the varsity Indians played at home at the same time the junior high Lady Indians were playing a game and the junior high football team played a game. The varsity girls swept Idalia, winning each match. Bandel said while it might have been chaotic for the crowd having three home games going on at the same time, and for Coach ShayLinn Zweygardt since she is both the head coach for high school and junior high, it wasn’t noticeable for the players.

“Our hitters stayed on top of it and were aggressive with every ball and that helped us maintain our lead,” said Junior Karly Bandel.
