Lady Indians new record: 21-6

The Lady Indians played a total of nine games during the week of September 24 and secured a 21-6 record. The Lady Indians traveled to Oberlin for a game against the Cheylin Cougars and the Oberlin Red Devils on Tuesday, September 25. Then on Thursday, the Lady Indians traveled to Hoxie for games against the Hoxie Lady Indians and the Dighton Hornets. On Saturday, September 29, the Lady Indians competed in a five team round robin in Oberlin. The Lady Indians faced off against Norton, Atwood, Oberlin, and Hoxie.

In the Lady Indians' game Tuesday night against Cheylin and Oberlin, the Lady Indians came out victorious beating both teams in two straight sets. The Lady Indians beat Cheylin 25-19, 25-16, and beat Oberlin 25-13, 25-11.

In Thursday night’s action, the Lady Indians met up with very competitive teams and went 1-1 for the night. The Lady Indians stayed with Hoxie but couldn’t pull out enough for a win and fell to a good Hoxie team that faced off again on Saturday. The Lady Indians then bounced back in their second game and beat Dighton, who then turned around and beat Hoxie, in two straight sets 25-21, 25-21.

On Saturday, the Lady Indians earned a hard fought second place in the Oberlin tournament. The Lady Indians lost only one game to the eventual champs of the tournament, the Norton Bluejays. The Lady Indians then came back and defeated Hoxie, Oberlin, and Atwood in exciting matches.

“It was a fun memorable weekend because we played so hard,” said Senior Lindsey Johnson. “Every single one of us girls worked as one.”

The Lady Indians JV gave it their all in all of their matches. In Tuesday night’s action, the JV Lady Indians matched up equally with both Cheylin and Oberlin losing both close games in three sets. Thursday night against Hoxie and Dighton, the JV Lady Indians never gave up and kept on fighting despite not being able to pull out a win. On Saturday, despite not winning a game, the JV fought hard throughout the whole day and took Oberlin and Hoxie into three set matches.

“During volleyball games, I always find it comfortable to look to my teammates,” said Junior Audrey Meyer. “They always hype me up and help me continue in the game.”

“It was a crazy week of volleyball but it was a lot of fun,” said Lady Indians Head Coach Shaylinn Zweygardt. “The girls did a great job focusing and working together. Our mental toughness showed the most improvement. Losing to Hoxie Thursday night and coming back to defeat them Saturday was a big break through for our team mentally, especially since we were down by six in the third match with no timeouts left. I am proud of how the girls battled all week.”
