Jr. High Indians Lose To Hoxie
In junior high football on October 4, the visiting Hoxie Indians jumped out to an comfortable early lead and rolled to a victory over the out-numbered and out-manned home-standing Indians. Hoxie scored on a punt return by 8th-grader Brady Jones to take the lead. The conversion points were scored on a pass from Jones to Derek Johnson (8th). With just over a minute-and-a half gone in the contest, Hoxie led 0-8. With 4:05 left in the first period, Jones struck again on a 3-yard run. The conversion points were scored on a pass from Jones to Miles Baalman (8th) moving the score to 0-16. With 49.5 seconds remaining in the first period, Hoxie added their third touchdown on an 8-yard run by Jones. Ryan Shaw (8th) scored the conversion points on a running play to advance the margin to 0-24.
With 12 seconds gone in the second period, Kane Epp (7th) scored on a 25 yard punt return. Hoxie executed a double-reverse for the conversion points to lead 0-32. Epp earned his second touchdown of the period on a 15-yard run with 1:05 left in the first half. The conversion try failed resulting in a 0-38 deficit for the Indians at halftime.
Hoxie scored early in the third period to end the contest on the 45-point rule. Though the young Indians gave good effort, Hoxie defeated St. Francis 0-46 in junior high football.
The junior high teams will play in Oberlin on Thursday, October 11.
