Indians defeat Golden Eagles, spear district title

The high school varsity football team crushed the Trego Golden Eagles and clinched the district championship on Friday, October 12. The Indians led by a fair margin at the end of the first quarter, 32-8. Then they dominated in the second quarter to be done at halftime, 64-14. Because of this win, the Indians were the outright district champions by winning all the district games played by 21 points.

Ben Nelson, freshman, said it was an exciting game and he was glad to be done at halftime to get home at a good time.  

“I am happy that we won and we had fun and got the district title,” said Nelson.

Jaron Berig, junior, said he was grateful for the win.

“It was fun to be there and support the team and I am glad it was another win for us,” Berig said.

Cutter Netizel, freshman, said, “We went out focused and ready to play and we won because of it.”

The Indians play Rawlins County Friday for the Yoke, Northwest Kansas League championship, and rounding it out with senior parent and military appreciation night. As a way to honor and show appreciation, military will receive free admittance to the game, are asked to stand down on the field during the national anthem and asked to join the players for a meal after the game. Game starts at 7 p.m. on Greene Field.
