Coach Dylan Loyd shared the following comments:

"We had our second competition this past weekend and though it didn’t result with a lot of wins I feel like these kids are getting better. I hate to beat a dead horse but, this group doesn’t have a lot of experience but, they are picking things up very quickly and the results are starting to show. Anytime you do the right things and put the work in good things will come as a result of that. We have some kids in here who work very hard every day and come into the practice room with a purpose and a drive to get better every day. I am excited for these last couple of weeks to see how this group finishes this season. Individually, Seth Tumbelson had a good day. He is giving up some size but, he does a lot of good things that you can build on. Dawson Rose keeps getting better every day. He’s got a high motor and works hard in every position to score points in matches. Dodge Fromholtz has a good natural feel to him and he does a lot of good things. He gets caught in some positions he’s not comfortable in but, with time he will get better. Aiden Fernandez has a lot of traits that you like to see. He’s one who hasn’t wrestled much, but he has a very good attitude. Cris Espino had a tough day against some decent competition. That’s how you get better though is wrestling against good, quality kids. He does a lot of good things as well, just has to get more confidence in himself. Javier Yanez has gotten much better from last year. He is getting to where he is opening up more in matches and looking to score more points. He just has to get a little more aggressive. Jordan Smull keeps getting better. He is very consistent in the practice room and when he gets to where he can compete out in competition like he does in practice he will be getting his hand raised. Connor Waschman competed hard and wrestled kids closer than he did a week ago which is what we want to see. He has a good skillset that can win him a lot of matches. He gets more experience under his belt and he’ll have a lot of success. Colton Raile ran into a buzz saw his first match but, he took it very well. It’s good to have those matches to keep you focused and he will learn from it. Looking ahead to this week the team will travel to Norton. It’s always fun to compete against some different competition and see teams these kids haven’t seen yet in any sport this season. Going up against the MCL teams is a lot fun and it’s always good to be tested. Being tested is crucial to making the gains needed to get better."

The junior high wrestlers will travel to Norton on Thursday, January 31, for competition.
