An inside look at Shelby Wolff
Shelby Wolff, senior, has a bright future ahead of her. She’s a jack of all trades with her skills ranging from cooking, bowling, fishing, and playing the guitar.
Wolff plans on attending Butler Community College for culinary arts for two years. “I’ve wanted to be a chef since I was little because I like cooking food and I like eating food. I like food.” Wolff said.
After she finishes with her education she plans on moving to Rhode Island or a surrounding coastal state. “I’m from Massachusetts, but it’s expensive to live in Massachusetts so I want to live around there,” said Wolff.
Wolff got a tattoo of a cross with outstretched wings on the inside of her left arm last Thanksgiving. “I got it because I wanted to express myself in a different way by getting a tattoo,” Wolff said. “It didn’t hurt that much. The struggle was finding a tattoo that I’d want on me 24/7. Because you got to love looking at it all day every day. But I loved the cross with the angel wings so I chose that one.”
Playing the guitar has always been a big passion for Wolff. She has been playing the guitar since she got in second grade. Her interests vary greatly from what you might expect. One of her most disparate hobbies is fishing. ”It teaches you patience and it’s a good stress reliever, being out on the calm water for a while,” she said.
Shelby has had many memorable moments throughout her high school years, from prom and homecoming to Scholar’s Bowl and performing on stage. “Scholar’s Bowl is actually my favorite part about the school year,” Wolff said. “You make some unusual friendships in Scholar’s Bowl and become a family throughout the year and get to know a lot about each other. It’s fun to travel and see new places and meet new people. The competition is good it challenges you and makes you think and helps you get better.”
She said entertaining people on stage has been a rush for her during high school. “I like the adrenaline rush when you’re on stage and in front of all those people on production nights,” Wolff said. “I like being able to get up on stage and be myself and have a fun time being weird or crazy I like to entertain people while still being myself at the same time.”
But one thing that most wouldn’t expect are all the little moments, from the laughs her class shared to just the little inside jokes they would tell each other, although this might not be what you expect it really is all the little things that you’ll remember ten years down the line.
Jorge Olivares, senior, said Shelby is determined. “She’s very kind,” said Olivares. “She’s always been very set in what she wanted to do in life.”
Cameron Sulewski, junior, described Shelby as selfless. “I love how she is always thinking about other people over herself, and when she sets her mind to something she does it,” said Sulewski.
Shelby has learned and grown a lot over the years and has gained a lot of insight into what it takes to be successful in school. “My advice to kids is to try hard in school whether you like it or not. Do your best so that one day you can move on and do great things without being constrained by failing grades,” said Wolff.
