Jr. High Divisional Meet Held

The Northwest Kansas League Divisional Track Meets were held on Thursday, May 2. The eight NWKL teams were split into two groups with four teams attending meets at two different sites. St. Francis competed in Tribune along with athletes from Greeley County, Rawlins County, and Wallace County. The meet was competed in four divisions:  6/7 girls, 6/7 boys, 8th girls, and 8th boys. This was the first meet of the year that was not competed in just two divisions (girls and boys).

St. Francis won several events at the meet. Rhonald Neitzel was a three-event winner placing 1st in the 6/7 boys 200 and 400 as well as placing 1st in the 4 X 100 relay along with Cris Espino, Colton Raile, and Alex Rodriguez. Other individual event winners included Colton Raile (6/7 boys shot put), Connor Wachsman (6/7 boys discus), Ben Busse (8th boys 400 and 800), Preston Witzel (8th boys 100 and high jump), Ellee Krien (8th girls 800), and Rian Zimbal (8th girls shot put). The pole vault event was not held in this meet.

6/7 Girls

Wallace County won the 6/7 girls division of the meet with an impressive 109 team points. Greeley County placed 2nd with 61. Rawlins County earned 3rd with 42 and St. Francis 4th with 27 points.

Lady Indians placing in the 6/7 division are listed below.

Maggie Hingst:  5th in discus (50' 3")

Deija Kabureck:  2nd in shot put (26' 0"), 4th in discus (53' 1")

Makaila Matthies:  3rd in 1600 meters (7:23.49); 3rd in 3200 meters (15:31.41)

Jacki Milliken; 4th (tie) in triple jump (27' 5")

Kaylee Moberly:  2nd (tie) in high jump (3' 6")

Matilynn Smull:  2nd in long jump (10' 9"), 5th in 100 meter hurdles (21.34)

4 X 100 meter relay:  2nd (1:05.04) - Aspen Tiegs, Michelle Palasio, Matilynn Smull, and Jacki Milliken

8th Girls

Rawlins County ran away with the 8th girls division of the meet scoring 105 team points. St. Francis placed 2nd with 37. Wallace County was a close 3rd with 34, and Greeley County placed 4th with 25 points.

Lady Indians placing in the 8th grade division are listed below.

Bree De Waal:  4th in 1600 meters (9:37.67)

Molly Gilliland:  2nd in discus (65' 4"), 3rd in shot put (25' 8")

Jesslynn Houtman: 2nd in triple jump (29" 0.5"), 5th in 200 meters (32.55)

Ellee Krien:  1st in 800 meters (2:51.32)

October Tumbelson: 2nd in high jump (3' 10")

Rian Zimbal:  1st in shot put (28' 7.5"), 3rd in long jump (13' 9")

4 X 100 meter relay:  2nd (1:01.88) - October Tumbelson, Jesslynn Houtman, Rian Zimbal, and Ellee Krien

6/7 Boys

Wallace County won the 6/7 boys division of the meet with 73 team points. Rawlins County placed 2nd with 61. St. Francis earned 3rd with 52 while Greeley County placed 4th with 47 points.

Indians placing in the 6/7 division are listed below.

Cris Espino:  2nd in 200 meter hurdles (33.09), 3rd in high jump (4' 6")

Aiden Fernandez:  5th in 200 meters (33.45)

Dallas Laten:  5th in long jump (11' 0")

Rhonald Neitzel:  1st in 200 meters (29.00), 1st in 400 meters (1:03.96)

Colton Raile:  1st in shot put (32' 5"), 3rd in discus (93' 9")

Asher Robbins:  4th in 100 meter hurdles (22.63)

Shane Todd:  5th in 100 meters (16.14)

Connor Wachsman:  1st in discus (101" 4"), 3rd in shot put (27' 7")

4 X 100 meter relay:  1st (58.28) - Cris Espino, Rhonald Neitzel, Colton Raile, and Alex Rodriguez

4 X 200 meter relay:  2nd (2:22.38) - Aiden Fernandez, Asher Robbins, Shane Todd, and Kike Yanez

8th Boys

Rawlins County won the 8th boys division of the meet with 84 team points. Greeley County placed 2nd with 45. St. Francis earned 3rd with 43 and Wallace County 4th with 30 points.

Indians placing in the 8th grade division are listed below.

Ben Busse:  1st in 400 meters (1:04.10) 1st in 800 meters (2:36.63)

Garrett Helton:  2nd in 100 meters (14.35), 3rd in long jump (14' 1.5"), 4th in triple jump (29' 9.5")

Preston Witzel:  1st in 100 meters (13.85), 1st in high jump (4' 8"), 2nd in long jump (15' 6"), 3rd in 200 meters (28.64)

The junior high track teams will compete in their final meet of the season, the Northwest Kansas League Junior High Track Meet, in Oberlin on Thursday, May 9. If the weather for May 9 is poor, the meet will be held on Friday, May 10.
