Junior High Teams Compete With Greeley County

On Thursday, September 12, the junior high volleyball and football teams traveled to Tribune to compete with Greeley County. All of the St. Francis teams competed well but lost to their hosts from Greeley County. 

The junior high volleyball teams each lost their matches in two sets. The B team lost 17-25, 21-25. The A team match followed with St. Francis coming up just a bit short 22-25, 13-25. The C team lost 15-25, 22-25.

The junior high football team lead most of the contest, but lost in the final seconds. St. Francis took an early 6-0 lead on a 52-yard run by Cris Espino. Greeley County followed with a running touchdown and conversion to lead 6-8. Later in the first period, the Indians scored again; this time on a 15-yard run by Cris Espino. The Indians led 12-8 at the first quarter break.

Neither team scored in the 2nd or 3rd periods as the teams battled for field position. With 1:55 remaining in the contest, Greeley County earned a safety to narrow the Indians' lead to 12-10. With 36 seconds left, the Jackrabbits scored their final touchdown to take a 12-16 win.

The volleyball team will compete in Atwood on Saturday, September 14. The football team will play Dighton on Thursday, September 19.
