At WaKeeney XC meet, all boys PRd
From water balloon fights to movie nights to practice, the team spends lots of time together. While other teams are losing players, the cross country team has gained three runners after the season started.
“The reason I love cross country isn't necessarily all the running we do, but the cult-like bond our team has. I have made friendships I never thought I would have before,” Senior Isaiah Lee said.
Five cross country runners raced on Thursday at WaKeeney. It was hot, windy, and hilly.
Sophomore Kara Maybury placed 11th.
“This meet was really tough for me, but I pushed through the pain,” Maybury said.
Sophomore Lyden Lampe placed 14th.
“It was challenging to run on a hot and hilly course,” Lampe said.
Newest team member Sophomore Alvaro Fernandez didn't have enough practices in to race in Wakeeney.
First-time racer Isaiah Lee, senior, placed 21st.
“The biggest challenge was not stopping,” Lee said. “I wanted to more than ever.”
Junior Cutler Mayer placed 20th.
“My legs were wanting to give up but I kept going,” Mayer said.
The runners said that this was a very difficult course.
“It was one of the most fun because everyone was able to participate in some way,” Lampe said.
Sophomore Eli Mills placed 18th.
“I about pooped myself,” Mills said.
All the boys got a personal record at WaKeeney.
