Junior High Girls Open Basketball Season

The junior high girls basketball team opened their season in Oberlin on Thursday, November 7, against the Decatur Community Lady Red Devils. Decatur Community won both contests played. The A-Team score was 9-37; the B-team score was 18-21.

Decatur Community jumped out to a 0-12 advantage after one quarter of play. St. Francis scored in the second period receiving a trey from Matilynn Smull, but the Lady Indians trailed 3-27 at halftime. The Lady Indians fared better in the second half.

In the third period Maggie Hingst added a trey for St. Francis and A. Witt scored three deuces for Decatur Community. St. Francis trailed 6-33 after three periods of play. Hingst added a field goal and Janae Moberly chipped in a free throw in the final period. St. Francis lost to Decatur Community 9-37.

Decatur Community was led in scoring by A. Witt with 13 points. R. Erickson scored 10, and M. Unger added 8. Maggie Hingst led St. Francis with 5 points.

St. Francis and Decatur Community battled closely in the B-Team contest. St. Francis led throughout the game until the final minutes when the Lady Red Devils finally earned the lead. Madison Siegfried and Morgan Wachsmann provided the early scoring for St. Francis giving the Lady Indians an 8-4 advantage after one quarter of play. Both teams scored 4 points in the second period.

The margin did not change in the third period, and St. Francis led 14-10 heading into the final stanza. St. Francis received 4 points from Morgan Wachsmann in the 4th quarter, but Decatur Community received 3 from D. Weygarth and 8 from J. Fortin to earn an 18-21 victory.

Scoring for St. Francis in the B-Team contest were:  Morgan Wachsmann 11, Madison Siegfried 3, Cheyenne LaBarge 2, and Breck Lohr 2. Decatur Community was led by J. Fortin with 13 points.

The Lady Indians will play Hoxie in St. Francis on Tuesday, October 12 at 4:30 p.m.
