The KMEA Northwest Kansas District Mini Convention I was held on
November 7th at Hays High School in Hays, Kansas. The convention
features concerts by three groups of outstanding young musicians,
the High School Honor Jazz Band, the Junior High Honor Band and the
Junior High Honor Choir.
Musicians from the 22 county Northwest Kansas District submit
audition CDs from which the top instrumentalists are selected for
the Honor Bands.
Logan Whitmore, a sophomore at SFCHS, was one of five trumpet
players selected to perform with the High School Honor Jazz Band.
This small ensemble of 20 talented high school musicians presented
several well known jazz selections made famous by the Count Basie
Orchestra. The Jazz Band was under the direction of Clint Ashlock,
renowned jazz trumpeter, composer and arranger from Kansas
City.
This was Logan’s second year to be selected for the High School
Honor Jazz Band.
