The 2009-2010 girls basketball season came to a close in Hill City on Monday evening, March 1. The Lady Indians were defeated by a superior shooting Hill City team. The Lady Ringnecks made fourteen treys in the game to easily outscore the visitors.
The Lady Indians fell behind 0-8 before Sarah Trembly put the Lady Indians on the board with a driving layup. The Lady Indians had trouble maintaining possession of the basketball and turned the ball over in five of their first six possessions. The score advanced to 2-19 with 3:02 remaining in the first period. The Lady Indians scored the last four points of the first quarter to cut the Hill City lead to 6-19 at the buzzer.
The Lady Indians continued to make numerous turnovers in the second quarter against the aggressive Hill City defense. The point spread rapidly rose to 12-42 by halftime. Hill City connected on 8 treys during the first half.
The Lady Indians trailed 14-50 with 6:33 left in the 3rd quarter and had fallen behind 25-70 after three quarters of play. The fourth quarter was played with a running clock. The Lady Indians were defeated by a very good Hill City team 29-79.
Sarah Trembly led the Lady Indians in scoring with 8 points. Jodie Hilt and Kaitlin Figgins each added six. Lexi Hardiek led the Lady Ringnecks in scoring with 28 points. Kelsey Keith added 15.
Scores of the other first round games were: Oakley 49 - Oberlin-Decatur Community 30; Ellis 61 - WaKeeney-Trego Community 55; and Atwood-Rawlins County 53 - LaCrosse 32.
The 2009-2010 team posted a season record of 5-15. The Lady Indians earned wins over Hoxie, Golden Plains, Idalia, Heartland Christian, and Cheylin.
