Junior High Track Teams Place Well In Own Invitational
McKenzie Taylor & Dallas Reed Set New School Records
The junior high track teams competed in their first meet of the season on April 19th. The St. Francis Junior High Invitational Track and Field Meet was held with twelve teams competing. Three of the four St. Francis teams placed second in the team standings. With twelve teams competing in the meet, the St. Francis student-athletes made an excellent showing.
McKenzie Taylor won three individual events. She won the 100 meter hurdles with a time of 17.77. The time was good enough to establish a new school record. The old record was 18.22 set by Amber Lyons in 1996. McKenzie also won the 100 meters and 200 meters.
Dallas Reed cleared 7' 0" in the 8th grade girls pole vault to set a new school record also. The old record was held by Sidnee Crabtree (6' 6" - set in 2005).
The seventh grade girls placed second in the meet behind Dundy County. Dundy County scored 127 points to out-distance all other teams. The Lady Indians scored 71 team points. Idalia was third with 58 points and Burlington fourth with 46 points. Other team placings for the 7th grade girls division were: 5th--Wallace County (39); 6th--Decatur Community (31); 7th--Weskan (26); 8th--Bethune (22); 9th--Brewster (15); 10th--Oakley (14); 11th--Rawlins County (9); and 12th--Cheylin (7).
The seventh grade boys team placed second also. The young Indians scored 64.9 team points. The Indians were just over three points out of the team championship. Dundy County won the 7th boys division with 68 points. Cheylin placed 3rd with 53 points while Decatur Community placed 4th with 51.8. The rest of the team scoring in the 7th boys division was: 5th--Wallace County (46); 6th--Idalia (42); 7th--Burlington (32); 8th--Weskan (31); 9th--Brewster (26); 10th--Oakley (25); 11th--Rawlins County (14.5); and 12th--Bethune (8).
The eighth grade boys team placed sixth in the meet with 33 team points. Burlington won the 8th boys division with 111 team points. Dundy County came in second with 81. The rest of the 8th boys team scoring was: 3rd--Decatur Community (51.5); 4th--Rawlins County (47.5); 5th--Wallace County (45); 6th--Oakley (39); 8th--Weskan (32); 9th--Bethune (29); 10th--Brewster (24); 11th--Cheylin (2); 12th Idalia (0).
Earning first place finishes in the track meet were: McKenzie Taylor - 7th girls 100 meter hurdles (17.77), 7th girls 200 meters (29.59), 7th girls 100 meters (13.51); Garrett Brunk, Lane Hobrock, Carl Fabre, and Travis Rogers - 7th boys 4 X 100 meter relay (55.07); Kylie Sherlock - 7th girls 400 meters (1:12:71); Cade Bracelin - 8th boys discus (126' 3"); Dallas Reed - 8th girls pole vault (7' 0"); McKayla Taylor - 8th girls 100 meter hurdles (17.33); and Garrett Brunk - 7th boys pole vault (7' 6");
Earning second place ribbons were: Valerie Wurm - 8th girls 100 meters (14.09), 8th girls pole vault (6" 6"); Garrett Brunk - 7th boys 100 meter hurdles (18.50); CarolEve Harris - 200 meters (30.45); Emily Elfers, CarolEve Harris, Kylie Sherlock, and McKenzie Taylor - 7th girls 4 X 100 meter relay (58.46); Valerie Wurm, McKayla Taylor, Echo Jones, and Mariah Beikman - 8th girls 4 X 100 meter relay (58.19); Dallas Reed - 8th girls high jump (4' 6"); Carl Fabre - 7th boys long jump (14' 4"); Cade Bracelin - 8th boys shot put (38' 5"); Lane Hobrock - 7th boys high jump (4' 10").
Earning third place finishes were: Justice Wiley, Dallas Reed, Mariah Beikman, and Kyla Bandel - 8th girls 4 X 200 meter relay (2:13.91); Kyler Zweygardt - 8th boys discus (117' 5"); Kyla Bandel - 8th girls pole vault (5' 6"); Mariah Beikman, Kyla Bandel, Ashlee Orth, and Justice Wiley - 8th girls 4 X 400 meter relay (5:31.23); Valerie Wurm - 8th girls 200 meter dash (30.70).
The next meet for the junior high teams will be held in St. Francis on Thursday, April 21st at 3:00 PM.
