St. Francis JH Quad Held Thursday

Five New School Records Set

St. Francis was host to a junior high quadrangular track meet on Thursday, April 21. Participating teams included Decatur Community, Rawlins County, Triplains, and St. Francis. The St. Francis team competed well and five new St. Francis school records were set.

McKenzie Taylor bettered her 7th grade girls 100 meter hurdle record with a time of 17.61. 

Dallas Reed cleared 7' 9" in the 8th grade girls pole vault to improve on the school record she set the week before.

McKayla Taylor set a new school record in the 8th girls 200 meter hurdles running 35.82. The old record (36.75) was held by Aly Schlepp set in 2010. Matt Howell set a new school record in the 8th boys 200 meter hurdles. Matt ran 32.07 to better the record of 33.12 set by Mason Schiltz last year. The girls 4 X 100 meter relay set a new school record of 56.02 seconds. The record is a combined (7th and 8th girls) record. The old record of 56.3 was set in 1975 by Debbie Barnhart, Julie Burnham, Gail Dirks, and Darci Stang.

The team scoring was divided into two divisions for this meet: girls and boys. This was the first meet to have the 7th and 8th grade teams competing together. St. Francis placed second in the girls division scoring 78.5 points. Decatur Community won the girls division with 96.5 points. Rawlins County and Triplains tied for third with 33.5 points each.

Decatur Community won the boys division with 93 points. Rawlins County placed second with 84. St. Francis placed third with 64.33 points and Triplains was fourth with 13 points.

St. Francis athletes earning first place were: Dallas Reed in the girls pole vaults (7' 9"); Cade Bracelin in the boys discus (117' 5.5") and the shot put (39' 2"); Girls 4 X 400 meter relay team (McKenzie Taylor, Kylie Sherlock, Echo Jones, and Justice Wiley 5:01.86); Girls 4 X 100 meter relay team (Echo Jones, Valerie Wurm, Kylie Sherlock, and McKayla Taylor 56.02); Lane Hobrock in the boys high jump (4' 10"); and the Boys 4 X 100 meter relay (Garrett Brunk, Carl Fabre, Cade Bracelin, and Kyler Zweygardt 53.76).

Earning second place finishes were: Echo Jones in the girls long jump (13' 1.5"); Girls 4 X 200 meter relay team (Mariah Beikman, CarolEve Harris, Dallas Reed, and Kayla Reed 2:08.03); McKenzie Taylor in the girls100 meter dash (13.73) and 200 meter dash (28.49); Cade Bracelin in the boys 100 meter dash (12.84); McKayla Taylor in the 200 meter hurdles (35.82); Boys 4 X 400 meter relay team (Garrett Brunk, Lane Hobrock, Clay Cassaw, Matt Howell 4:44.85); Matt Howell in the 100 meter hurdles (17.52) and 200 meter hurdles (32.07); McKenzie Taylor in the girls 100 meter hurdles (17.61); and Garrett Brunk in the boys pole vault (8' 0").

St. Francis athletes earning third place finishes were: McKayla Taylor in the girls long jump (12' 9.5"); Valerie Wurm in the 100 meter dash (13.92), girls pole vault (6' 6"), and 200 meter dash (30.34); Lane Hobrock in the boys 200 meter dash (28.21); Carl Fabre in the boys long jump (15' 1"); Kyler Zweygardt in the boys discus (111' 11"); Kyla Bandel in the girls triple jump (23' 4"); Boys 4 X 200 meter relay team (Justin Pacheco, Riley Shay, Tanner Gilliand, and Jakob Church 2:12:78); and McKayla Taylor in the girls 100 meter hurdles (17.90).

The next meet for the junior high track teams will be on Thursday, April 28th at Atwood.
