Junior High Track Teams Open in Strong Fashion

The St. Francis Junior High track teams performed very well in their first meet of the season on Tuesday, April 17th.  St. Francis won three of the four divisions competed in the St. Francis Junior High Invitational. Many young Indian athletes also turned in excellent individual performances.  Fourteen teams and 447 athletes participated in the meet.

Garrett Brunk set an new school record in the 8th grade boys 200 meter hurdles running 30.23 seconds in the event.  The old record was held by Matt Howell (32.07).  Lane Hobrock also broke the old school record in the same event by running 30.69 to place third.

Taylor Rogers set a new school record in the 7th grade boys 200 meter hurdles with a time of 32.37 seconds.  The old record was held by Garrett Brunk, set in 2011, at 34.38.

St. Francis won the 8th grade boys division scoring 90 points.  Dundy County placed second with 82 points and Decatur Community was third with 80.  The other team placings in the 8th boys division were:  4th - Wallace County 70; 5th - Holyoke 37; 6th - Triplains 31; 7th - Brewster 26; 8th - Cheylin 23; 9th - Burlington 22; 10th - Oakley 17; 11th - Idalia 16; 12th (tie) - Rawlins County 13; 12th (tie)- Weskan 13; and 14th - Bethune 4.

The 8th grade Lady Indians won their division of the track meet by scoring 118 points.  Dundy County was a close second with 113 points.  Idalia placed third with 58 points.  The other team results in the 8th grade girls division were:  4th - Burlington 50; 5th - Rawlins County 35; 6th - Decatur Community 28; 7th - Wallace County 25; 8th - Holyoke 24; 9th - Bethune 19; 10th - Triplains 14; 11th - Cheylin 13; 12th - Brewster 12; 13th - Oakley 3; and 14th - Weskan 2.

St. Francis and Decatur Community tied for the 7th grade boys team championship with 77 points. Burlington was third with 62.5 points.  The remaining teams scores in the 7th boys division were:  4th - Rawlins County 46; 5th - Oakley 46; 6th - Idalia 34; 7th - Wallace County 33.5; 8th - Bethune 25; 9th - Weskan 24; 10th - Dundy County 22; 11th - Holyoke 20; 12th - Brewster 17; 13th - Cheylin 7; and Triplains 0.

St. Francis placed 10 in the 7th grade girls team standings.  Dundy County dominated the 7th grade girls division accumulating 116 points.  Wallace County was a distant second with 83.75 points.  The remainder of the 7th grade team scores were:  3rd - Weskan 70; 4th = Decatur Community 53.75; 5th - Burlington 47; 6th - Rawlins County 30; 7th - Oakley 21.5; 8th - Holyoke 21; 9th - Bethune 20; 10th - St. Francis 10; 11th - Triplains 10; 12th - Idalia 9; and 13th - Triplains and Brewster 0.
