Another win was added to the Indians’ belts on Friday, November 22, which means the Indians are going to state for the second time in Saint Francis school history. The Indians are traveling to the state championship football game in Newton on Saturday, November 30, to play Canton Galva.

The team beat Leoti for the second time on Friday to punch their spot in the championship game. The first time the Indians competed against Leoti, the game was over at the beginning of the third quarter, 46-0. The second game against Leoti was a hard fought win.

“Going into the game we knew it would be tougher because they knew what to expect,” said Head Coach Nick Fawcett. “We couldn’t expect to beat them just because we had before.”

The Indians had a more challenging game against Leoti, but still won with time remaining in the fourth quarter by the 45-point margin. Final score was 66-20.

Freshman Ben Busse said a turning point in the game was when the Leoti quarterback got hurt when they were on the 2-yard line about to score.

“It was truly a great team win and I couldn’t be happier with the group of guys and how we performed,” said Senior Brady Dinkel. “We all played with heart and had a goal set to win.”

Dinkel was a freshman the last time the football team went to state, but said this time is an even better feeling.

“It’s a great feeling knowing that this year I can get back at that game [freshman year] and have a chance at coming out on top in my last ever football game for Saint Francis,” said Dinkel.

Junior Colton Neitzel said he is honored for the opportunity to play at state.

“It feels good to actually get a chance to play in a state game because very few get the chance to actually go,” Colton Neitzel, junior, said.

Junior Josiah Sims said he isn’t excited.

“I’m not excited for state because we belong there,” said Sims.

The Indians will play for the 8-man DI state championship game at Fischer Field in Newton on Saturday, Nov. 30. Kick-off is at 11 a.m.
