Cutler Mayer: Ready to Shoot Up in Society

By Rian Zimbal

If you were to ask Cutler Mayer what his favorite class is, he would simply respond with: “All the classes I take that I am able to learn something I can use in the real world, and that teaches me new skills, is my favorite.”

Mayer is planning to learn new skills to use in the real world by attending Kansas State University Polytechnic in Salina Kansas or joining the U.S. Air Force. Mayer’s goal is “going into the career of unmanned aerial systems,” also known as drones. Mayer feels drones are “shooting up in society.”

When asked why he is interested in drones, Mayer claimed that “Technology is getting to be a big deal. I guess you could say that I am following a trend.”

Mayer is planning on having a job while in college. Mayer enjoys hands-on jobs because he can learn something new.

“College is expensive and money doesn’t grow on trees,” Mayer explains. “Having a job teaches you discipline and hard work.”

Mayers love for learning life lessons can be shown in his relationship with his father. Mayer believes that his father is a humble man and he is inspired by his father.

“I am able to look at his accomplishments and defeats and choose the same path, or a different one,” Cutler said.

Mayer can learn valuable lessons in almost anything he does, including participating in sports. Mayer participates in cross country, basketball, and golf.

Mayer’s only cross country teammate, Lyden Lampe, says, “There are a lot of laughs with him.” Lampe also claims, “He’s pretty chill.”

Jackie Allen, the high school English and drama teacher, agrees.

“He seems to take life on as it comes,” Allen said. “He’s pretty laid back.” Allen also acknowledges that, “It takes a lot of discipline to be a cross country runner.”

Mayer is also a part of the drama class and is thought of as a great actor.

“He’s… really good at accents, and getting hit and falling down,” Ms. Allen said.

One of Mayer’s biggest accomplishments is becoming an uncle. From Cutler’s perspective, being an uncle shows responsibility, love, and care.

“I have a beautiful little niece that I get to help raise and be a good role model to,” Mayer explains.
