Sanity team stays busy golfing

By Bree De Waal

The High School golf team is made up of eight students. The golf team competed in two tournaments this week, one varsity tournament and a junior varsity tournament. They had a varsity tournament in Hoixe, battling the wind the whole time. Senior Jesse Baxter placed the highest coming in tied at sixth place.

The Junior Varsity had a tournament in Oakley this week. Only three of the golfers attended. Sophomore Preston Witzel tried for first place, but finished in second. Freshman Dawson Rose medaled in ninth place. Junior Caleb Todd joined just recently and he finished 53rd, just short of getting a medal.

“I loved golf this year,” said Freshman Dawson Rose. “I was nervous, because before this year I didn’t have much experience. I learned so much. We have a great team, and they helped me improve. Coach [Jake] Miller really makes golf an easy sport to love and easy to learn. I’m excited to gain more experience over the summer.”

Senior Cutler Mayer got the golf program up and running again his freshman year.

“My favorite part about this season would have to be fixing my swing,” said Mayer.

Senior Jesse Baxter decided to go out for golf this year instead of track.

“I just like golfing and it’s just relaxing compared to track,” said Baxter. “I could golf all day long; track meets are boring.”
