Classes for Athletic Competition Released

St. Francis Classified as 1A

The Kansas State High School Activities Association has released the classification and enrollment information for the 2007-2008 year.  Classifications are based on the current enrollment in grades 10, 11, and 12 only.  St. Francis has been classified as a 1A school for the first time.

Several schools in the Northwest Kansas League have changed enrollments this year.  Atwood-Rawlins County has moved from 1A back to 2A.  Oberlin-Decatur County has moved from 3A back to 2A.  Hoxie and St. Francis have both moved from the 2A classification to 1A.  This classification change will affect post-season competition in volleyball, basketball, and track.  St. Francis will still compete in the 2A football playoffs this year as football classifications are assigned every two years instead of yearly as is the case with the other sports.  St. Francis teams will now compete in regional competition in both volleyball and basketball prior to substate action.

A list of the NWKL schools, their enrollment, and classification follows:  Colby  238 4A; Decatur County  112  2A; Goodland  204  4A; Hoxie  78  1A; Oakley  113  2A; Quinter  79  1A; Rawlins County 86  2A; and St. Francis  75  1A.
