Regional Music Festival Results

Thirteen One Ratings Earned

The St. Francis Community High School music department participated in the 1-2-3-4A Regional Music Festival held in Oberlin on Saturday, bringing home 13 I ratings.  Twenty-six students qualified for the State Music Fesitval, which will be held on April 26 in Wichita.

Soloists earning I ratings were Katelyn Jones, flute and vocal solos; Sara Miller, vocal solo; Corbin Sherlock, baritone solo; Gavin Smull, vocal solo; Lauren Zweygardt, vocal solo; Ada Fong, vocal solo; Cara Hunt, vocal solo; Matt Whitmore, marimba solo; and Alyssa Lee, vocal solo.

Earning the other I ratings were the Mixed Vocal Class Ensemble, the Advanced Music Class Girls Ensemble, and the Clarinet Trio.  Members of the Mixed Vocal Class Ensemble are Andrea Born, Kimberly Church, Brendan Finley, Ada Fong, Kattie Ford, Robbie Herman, Jodie Hilt, Brooklyn Hnizdil, Heather Hnizdil, Cara Hunt, Katelyn Jones, Brandon Keeker, Taylor Kennedy, Alyssa Lee, Jacob Riedel, Corbin Sherlock, Amber Smull, Gavin Smull, Sarah Trembly, Kim Voeller, and Lauren Zweygardt.  Members of the Advanced Music Ensemble are Andrea Born, Cassie Dankenbring, Ada Fong, Kattie Ford, Sarah Guthmiller, Brooklyn Hnizdil, Heather Hnizdil, Katelyn Jones, Sara Miller, Daniele Schmid, Amber Smull, and Kim Voeller.  The Clarinet Trio is composed of Sarah Guthmiller, Alyssa Lee, and Ada Fong.

Also performing at the music festival were vocal soloists Andrea Born, Brendan Finley, Sarah Guthmiller, Robbie Herman, Jacob Riedel, Corbin Sherlock, and Kim Voeller, and baritone soloist Kattie Ford.  Other ensembles performing were the Advanced Music Class Mixed Ensemble (Lauren Zweygardt, Cara Hunt, Cassie Dankenbring, Sara Miller, Corbin Sherlock, and Gavin Smull); the Flute Trio (Katelyn Jones, Cara Hunt, and Jodie Hilt); the Brass Quartet (Lauren Zweygardt, Zach Zweygardt, Teri Walters, and Kattie Ford); and the Percussion Quartet (Matt Whitmore, Jacob Riedel, Gavin Smull, and Drew Zweygardt).

Students were accompanied and directed by SFCHS band and vocal instructor Debbie Fiala.  She stated, "I was pleased with the performances given by this talented group of students.  They spent many, many, hours practicing at school with me, as well as putting in time individually at home on their solos.  The solos and ensembles continuing on to State should do extremely well."
