Volleyball Teams Split Season Opener
On Tuesday, September 2nd, the Lady Indian volleyball team traveled to Hoxie for their first competition of the 2008-2009 season. Both the varsity and junior varsity teams split their matches against Hoxie and Golden Plains.
In varsity action, the varsity Lady Indians showed their inexperience and started slowly against the Hoxie Lady Indians. St. Francis missed several serves and executed poorly early in the match and trailed 3-13 before beginning to play better. The team worked hard and cut the lead to 13-19 but could not overcome the early Hoxie lead. Hoxie won the first game 15-25. In the second game of the match, the Indians played better, but so did Hoxie. Sainty did not handle the constant Hoxie attack well losing 6-25. Both Hoxie and Golden Plains had played matches earlier in the season.
In the Golden Plains match, the Lady Indians played with more confidence and better execution and won the match in three games 25-15; 19-25; 25-16.
In junior varsity action, St. Francis lost to Hoxie and defeated Golden Plains.
The next action for the Lady Indians will be Tuesday, September 9th, when they travel to Oberlin to compete with Decatur County and Colby.
