Classes for Athletic Competition Released
St. Francis Classified as 2A
The Kansas State High School Activities Association has released the classification and enrollment information for the 2008-2009 year. Classifications are based on the current enrollment in grades 10, 11, and 12 only. St. Francis has 81 students in these grades and has been classified as a 2A school (enrollment 81-121). St. Francis is the smallest 2A school in Kansas this year.
St. Francis is the only school in the Northwest Kansas League to change enrollments this year. This classification change will affect post-season competition in volleyball, basketball, and track. St. Francis will still compete in the 2A football playoffs this year as football classifications are assigned every two years instead of yearly as is the case with the other sports. St. Francis teams will NOT compete in regional competition in volleyball or basketball prior to substate action as they did last year when St. Francis was classified as a 1A school.
A list of the NWKL schools, their enrollment, and classification follows: Colby 246 4A; Decatur County 98 2A; Goodland 182 3A; Hoxie 65 1A; Oakley 104 2A; Quinter 68 1A; Rawlins County 91 2A; and St. Francis 81 2A.
