Student Injured in Automobile Accident
On Tuesday, September 30th, sophomore Trevor Reed was critically injured in a one car accident south of St. Francis. Trevor lost control of the automobile he was driving on a gravel road near his home and the car rolled ejecting him. Trevor was not wearing a seatbelt.
Trevor was flown to Swedish Medical Center in Denver by Flight For Life air ambulance. Trevor has severe back injuries and head trauma resulting from the crash. He has undergone two surgical procedures--one lasting approximately 6 1/2 hours and the other 5 hours--to repair damage to his spine. Doctors are "cautiously optimistic" about his chances for recovery according to family members.
Wednesday-Oct. 9th update--Trevor has been taken off the ventilator and has been moved from ICU to the fifth floor in the pediatric unit. (The reason he was not moved to the multi trauma unit was due to the fact that all beds in the unit were filled.) Due to his injuries, Trevor will remain in the hospital for some time. Trevor will start physical therapy soon.
Monday--Oct. 13th update--Trevor is up and sitting in a chair/wheelchair using a "turtle shell" to support his back for several hours each day. Trevor currently has no feeling in the front of his thighs but has good response in this right leg and some in his left. Trevor will soon been moved to Children's Hospital in Aurora for rehabilitation.
Wednesday--October 15th update--Trevor has been moved to Children's Hospital in Aurora for rehabilitation.
Wednesday--February 25th update--Trevor is attending St. Francis High School full time. He is walking with the use of crutches and improving steadily.
