Decatur County Wins NWKL Championship
Launch the media gallery 1 playerThe St. Francis Lady Indians participated in the Northwest Kansas League Volleyball Tournament in Colby on Saturday, October 18th. The Lady Indians won 1 and lost 2 in pool play and did not advance into bracket play.
In the first match of the day, St. Francis took on number one seeded Decatur County. The Lady Indians played well, but lost the match 20-25; 16-25. The Indians performed well in most areas of the game, but could only generate 8 kills against the scrambling Lady Red Devil defense. Joni Pevler led the serving with 10 of 10 and 7 service points. Jami Pevler hit 21 of 24. Jodi Hilt led all passers with 18 of 22 on target. Mikaela Grace had 6 block/stuffs. St. Francis recorded 16 blocks in the two game match.
Launch the media gallery 2 playerSt. Francis' second opponent was the Goodland Cowgirls. St. Francis played well again, but lost a close match to Goodland 23-25; 20-25. St.Francis missed 5 serves and gave up 4 aces in the match, but passed, set, and hit well. Jamie Pevler was accurate on 17 of 23 passing attempts. The front line recorded 13 block/stuffs.
St. Francis' only win on the day came in their third match against Quinter. The Lady Indians won in three sets 25-20; 22-25; 25-16. The team was 68 of 72 serving (94%), hit 85% (116 of 137), and passed and set well. Aubree Schlepp had 5 blocks and Kaitlin Figgins had 6 of the team total of 17. The team recorded a season high 34 kills. This was a nice win for the girls as Quinter had previously defeated the Lady Indians twice earlier in the season.

Pool B: Hoxie 3-0, Colby 2-1, Rawlins County 1-2, Oakley 0-3
In the semifinal matches of bracket play, Decatur County defeated Colby 25-18, 25-22 and Hoxie defeated Goodland 25-19, 25-16.
Decatur County defeated Hoxie for the NWKL Championship by scores of 25-13, 25-21.
