Volleyball Season Ends at Substate

The St. Francis Lady Indians competed in the 2A Substate Volleyball Tournament in Atwood on Saturday, October 25th.  The Lady Indians, seeded eighth, were matched against the number one seeded Lady Red Devils from Decatur County.  The Lady Indians played very well and nearly defeated their opponent in game one of the match losing 19-25.  In the second game, St. Francis did not play as well and Decatur County took an 11-25 win to complete the match.  The season thus came to a close for the Lady Indians.  St. Francis ended the season with a record of 7-25.  Seniors playing their last high school volleyball match were Elizabeth Gienger, Cara Hunt, Jami Pevler, and Joni Pevler.

Match results of the 2A Substate Tournament are listed below:

Game 1:  Oberlin-Decatur County defeated St. Francis 25-19; 25-11

Game 2: Atwood-Rawlins County defeated Plainville 25-15; 24-26; 25-17

Game 3:  Hill City defeated Oakley 25-15; 25-18

Game 4:  Wakeeney-Trego Community defeated Stockton 26-24; 25-20

Game 5 (semifinals):  Oberlin-Decatur County defeated Atwood-Rawlins County 25-19; 25-9

Game 6 (semifinals):  Hill City defeated Wakeeney-Trego Community 25-11; 25-19

Game 7 (championship):  Oberlin-Decatur County defeated Hill City 25-21; 25-13

Oberlin-Decatur County completed the substate with a 29-8 record and will represent the area in the 2A State Tournament in Hays on October 31 and November 1.

Other area teams qualifying for the State Tournament were Hoxie (27-10) and Weskan (43-0) in Class 1A and Phillipsburg (37-2) in Class 3A.
