Junior High Basketball Tournament Played
The first round of the junior high boys basketball tournament has been completed and the schedule of upcoming games is now set. The first round games were played at the sites of the four highest seeds as determined by season record.
The 8th grade team played their first round game in Oakley on Monday, December 15th. The eighth grade team lost to Oakley 25-40. In other first round games, Hoxie defeated Goodland 34-9; Colby defeated Rawlins County 44-23; and Decatur County defeated Quinter 48-32.
The seventh grade team played in Colby on December 15th. The seventh grade lost their first round game to Colby 12-48. Scores of the other first round games in seventh grade (B-team) action were as follows: Decatur County defeated Quinter 35-30; Goodland defeated Oakley 31-16; and Rawlins County defeated Hoxie 49-34.
The semifinal and final rounds of the tournament were scheduled for Thursday, December 18th. The tournament was held in two locations. The eighth grade (A-team) tournament was played in Oakley/Monument and the seventh grade (B-team) tournament was played in Quinter Both teams were play two games on Thursday afternoon. Some of the games were played, but due to inclement weather, the tournament was delayed. Both the 7th and 8th grade teams played well in their games. The eighth grade team won their game against Quinter 27-21. Dylan Peter and Keegan Sherlock each nailed two free throws late in the game to seal the Sainty victory. The seventh grade team lost to Quinter in overtime 35-39. Mason Schlitz scored twenty points to lead St. Francis. Corwin scored 26 for Quinter.
The status of the tournament at this time is uncertain, but it is very unlikely that the tournament will be completed due to the holiday break.
