Indians Qualify Five Wrestlers for State
Team Places 4th in Regional
The St. Francis Indian wrestling team placed fourth in the 3-2-1A Regional Wrestling Tournament in Ellis on February 20th and 21st. The Indians also had five individuals place in the top four positions and qualify for the State Tournament in Hays next weekend.
Athletes competing in the tournament were: Freddy Pacheco at 112#; David Leibbrandt at 119#; Cody Sherlock at 125#; Terrance Lamb at 130#; Darris Keller at 135#; Jesse Pacheco at 145#; Grady Brunk at 160#; Scott Ford at 171#; and Adam Guthmiller at 189#.

112 pounds: Freddy Pacheco (25-13) won by fall over Corey Davis of Goodland (1:16); Won by fall over Samantha Gonzales of Lakin (1:32); Lost by fall to Troy Bainter of Norton (1:05); Won by fall over Denton Tankersley of Leoti-Wichita County (4:32); Lost by fall to Grant Holub of Hays-Thomas Moore Prep-Marion (2:30). Freddy placed 4th and qualified for the state tournament.
119 pounds: David Leibbrandt lost by fall to Garth Griffith of Atwood-Rawlins County (4:55); lost by fall to Austin Lopez of Ellis (1:23).
125 pounds: Cody Sherlock (31-8) won by fall over Donovan Shamberger of Hoxie (1:27); Lost by major decision to Brett Terrell of Norton (1-9); Won by decision over Kade Sheldon of Goodland (1-0); Won by decision over Matt Amos of Holcomb (3-2). Cody placed third and qualified for the state tournament.
130 pounds: Terrance Lamb (34-5) won by fall over Mario Mancillas of Leoti-Wichita County (4:45); Won by fall over Dylan Bell of Hoisington (3:30); Won by major decision over Cody Green of Atwood-Rawlins County (10-1); Won by decision over Landon Keiswetter of Norton (7-5). Terrance won the championship at 130 pounds and qualified for the state tournament.
135 pounds: Darris Keller (22-21) won by fall over Alberto Mariscal of Hays-Thomas Moore Prep-Marion (0:17); Won by fall over Jonnie Dooley of Larned (1:44); Lost by fall to Kaenon Keiswetter of Norton (4:32); Won by fall over Ryan Morales of Holcomb (0:56); Lost by decision to Nathan Deeds of Goodland (0-5). Darris placed fourth and qualified for the state tournament.
145 pounds: Jesse Pacheco (27-9) won by fall over Josh Reilly of Ellis (0:19); Won by fall over Nate Cox of Oakley (1:22); Won by decision over Jarrett Stanton of Holcomb (8-4); Won by decision over Kaid McKenna of Norton (11-5). Jesse won the championship at 145 pounds and qualified for the state tournament.
160 pounds: Grady Brunk (26-16) won by fall over Brice Peters of Sublette (1:54); Won by decision over Vance Johnson of Goodland (7-4); Lost by technical fall to Corey Engstrom of Hoisington (2-18); Lost by fall to John Shaughnessy of Cimmarron (4:55).
171 pounds: Scott Ford (23-26) won by fall over Clinton Johnson of Hill City (0:49); Lost by fall to Ryan Taylor of Goodland (3:36); Won by fall over Tyler Martin of Atwood-Rawlins County (1:24); Lost by decision to Jon James of Wakeeney-Trego Community (9-10).
189 pounds: Adam Guthmiller (18-22) lost by decision to Carl Hickel of Hoisington (6-10); Won by decision over Jaxen Alstrom of Oberlin-Decatur County (6-3); Won by fall over Jeremy Sproul of Norton (1:41); Lost to Ethan Jirak of Oakley (6-10).

Norton won the regional tournament with 204.5 points. Goodland placed second with 148. Hoisington placed third with 112.5 points and was closely followed by St. Francis with 110 points.
