Track Teams Do Well in Early Competition
Kinen and Crabtree Set New School Records
Track season is underway! The high school track teams have participated in four meets thus far in the 2009 season and have done very well. Quality practice time has been difficult to find due to poor weather conditions, but coaches and athletes have done what they could to prepare for competition.
Hoxie Invitational
On Friday, April 3rd, the teams traveled to Hoxie to participate in the Hoxie Invitational. The conditions were cool and breezy, but several local teams braved the elements for their first competition of the year. The girls team placed place 2nd (137 points) and boys team 3rd (115.5 points) out of the five teams participating. Decatur County won both the girls and boys divisions in the meet. Sidnee Crabtree set a new school record in the javelin with a toss of 118' 2". Sidnee held the previous school record at 115' 3" set last year.

The boys 4X100m relay team (Garrett Figgins, Sam Sowers, Drew Zweygardt, Brock Zweygardt) placed 2nd with a time of 48.33. The girls 4X400m relay team (Elizabeth Gienger, Mikaela Grace, Jenna Hill, and Ashlynn Lambert) place 2nd with a time of 4:39.44. The boys 4X400m relay team (Kinen Figgins, M. Raile, D. Dundy County Invitational
The Dundy County Invitational Track Meet was held in Benkelman, NE on Tuesday, April 7th. The St. Francis girls placed 7th out of 11 teams with 44 1/3 points. Dundy County/Stratton won the meet with 113 points. St. Francis girl athletes who placed were: Elizabeth Gienger--2nd-200m (27.20); Jenna Hill--7th-200m (29.10); Ashlynn Lambert--7th-1600m (6:15.60); Mikaela Grace--5th-100m hurdles (18.20), 6th-300m hurdles (55.90); Kaitlyn Figgins--8th-300m hurdles (56.50); Sidnee Crabtree--2nd-shot put (36' 3"), 3rd-discus (100' 4"); and Sarah Trembly--8th-discus (85' 3"). The girls 4X100m relay team (Jenna Hill, Kaitlyn Figgins, Ashlynn Lambert, and Elizabeth Gienger) finished 5th in a time of 56.80. The boys team placed 4th, scoring 83 points. Trent Kinen won four first place finishes on the day. Cambridge won the meet with 115 points. Indian tracksters who placed in the meet were: Matt Raile--4th-100m (11.60), 3rd-triple jump (41' 1 1/2"); Drew Zweygardt--6th-triple jump (39' 2"); Shawn Warren--7th-shot put (41" 2"); Trent Raile--4th-200m (23.90), 1st-long jump (20' 1/2"); Marvin Miller--8th-1600m (5:26.70); Trent Kinen--1st-110m hurdles (15.00), 1st-300m hurdles (41.10); Sam Sowers--5th-100m hurdles (16.30); Garrett Figgins--6th-100m hurdles (16.80), 8th-discus (101' 11"); Isaac Schiltz--5th-pole vault (10'6"); and Cody Killingsworth--8th-pole vault (9' 6"). Goodland 9-10 Meet
On Monday, April 13, the 9-10 tracksters traveled to Goodland to participate in the Goodland 9-10 Track Meet. The Lady Indians placed 3rd (76 points) and the Indians 6th (51 points) out of the 8 teams participating. Individual winners were: Kaitlin Figgins (shot and 300m hurdles), Sarah Trembly (javelin), Mikaela Grace (800 m and 300m hurdles), Cody Killingsworth (pole vault), and Garrett Figgins (110m hurdles). The boys 4X100 meter relay team consisting of Brock Zweygardt, Cody Killingsworth, Adam Guthmiller, and Garrett Figgins also won.

Triplains Invitational
The Triplains Invitational was held in Colby on Tuesday, April 14th. The girls team placed 5th out of 17 teams scoring 56 points. The Greeley County girls won the meet with 79 points. Sidnee Crabtree won three events for the Lady Indians. Girls placing in the meet were: Jenna Hill--200m-5th (28.74); Elizabeth Gienger--400m-3rd (1:04.22); Sidnee Crabtree--javelin-1st (113' 7"), shot put-1st (36' 7"), discus-1st (109' 1"); and Ashlynn Lambert--1600m-2nd (6:08.73). The boys team placed 2nd out of 17 teams scoring 76 points. Quinter won the meet with 98 points. Trent Kinen won four golds at the meet. Trent Kinen set a new school record in the 300m intermediate hurdles. Trent ran 40.38 to win the event. The old school record was held by Tanner Kinen (40.42 in 2005). The boys 4X400m relay team (Trent Kinen, Trent Raile, Matt Raile, and Drew Zweygrardt) won the meet with a time of 3:42.99. The 4X100m relay team (Trent Kinen, Trent Raile, Matt Raile, and Drew Zweygardt) also won first with a time of 45.63. Boys placing in the meet included: Trent Raile--200m-2nd (23.60), long jump-1st (19' 10"); Trent Kinen--300m hurdles-1st (40.38), 110m hurdles-1st (15.37); Matt Raile--triple jump-3rd (38' 5.5"); and Shawn Warren--shot put-4th (40' 10").
