Lady Indians Lose to Nebraska Teams

The Lady Indian volleyball teams hosted teams from Chase County (Imperial) and Dundy County (Benkelman) Nebraska on Thursday evening, September 24th. The Lady Indians were defeated in all the matches played.

In varsity action against Chase County, the Lady Indians jumped out to an early lead on the Lady Longhorns. St. Francis led 20-15 in game one, but the Lady Indians struggled late in the game, and the Lady Longhorns came back to tie the game at 22. The game ended with Chase County winning 22-25. In the second game, St. Francis fared better leading 19-15 and completing a 25-17 win. In the final game of the match, Chase County jumped out to a 10-18 lead and went on to win, 13-25. Chase County later beat Dundy County 25-13; 25-14 in varsity action.

The Lady Indians also took the Dundy County Lady Tigers to three sets. St. Francis won the first set of close competition 25-23. The Lady Tigers jumped out to a big lead (7-21) before winning 14-25 in game two. In the third set, St. Francis did not execute very well at times and missed 5 serves early to give Dundy County the momentum.  Dundy County closed the match with a 13-25 win.

The evening was also Senior Night.  The senior members of the volleyball squad, Dale Northrup, Kaycee Williams, and manager Emily Mullins and their parents were recognized.

In junior varsity action, St. Francis lost to Chase County 18-25; 20-25 and to Dundy County 18-25; 9-25. The Lady Indian C team also lost both matches. The scores to the Chase County match were 12-25; 9-25. The Dundy County match was close throughout with Dundy County winning in three sets 16-25; 25-21; 12-15.

The next action for the JV and C teams will come on Saturday, September 26th when the C team will be competing in the Oberlin Invitational C Team Tournament and the JV team will go to Brewster to compete in a quad.  The C team tournament begins at 9:00 AM and the Brewster quad begins at 10:00 AM.  The varsity will not play again until Tuesday, September 29th when they go to Oberlin to compete against Cheylin and Decatur County. Decatur County is currently the number 1 ranked 2A team in Kansas.
